I use the mirena IUS coil and it is brilliant, once it is in it lasts up to 5 years and in most cases you will stop having periods which is even better. Next best thing to sterilisation and just as affective until it's removed.

I don't know what the "best" is but I am on birth control pills and have not gotten pregnant since my first child almost 3 years ago!
The thing I can tell you is that with the pill or any other birth control it is a good Idea to use a condom with it... it will lower the chances of pregnancy even more then with just one or the other.
Good luck!

I have an IUD now after 17 years of birth control pills, and let me tell you, it ROCKS! No pills to remember, no last minute panic attacks "Did I take it last night?" All I have to do is check once a month to make sure the strings are in the right place. I have the Copper Paraguard IUD that is good for 10 years, but the Mirena (it has hormones) is supposed to be as comfortable, but it only last 5 years.
That would be my advice...

The mirena IUD is awesome. That's what I have. I have a tendency to get pregnant on low-dose type hormones. My doctor recomended the Mirena because I can get pregnant so easily. I've had it for nearly 2 years and no babies...lol. The Mirena is also just as effective as getting your tubes tied.

the estrogen-containing BC pills/patch have a high success rate (when used properly), but if you are breastfeeding, you should not use anything w/ estrogen, as it will dry up your supply. in that case, your doc would prescribe a progesterone-only pill.
you can also consider an IUD, which stays in your uterus for an extended period of time and can be removed whenever you are ready to have kids again. this has a very high success rate as well.
there are lots of options out there. talk to your OB, since you are seeing them pretty frequently anyway!
good luck!

Use the bi-fold method. Keep track of your periods and be very careful during your ovulation. Then use all other kinds of control: condoms, creams, you might also get an IUD.
Don't get your tubes tied...don't let anyone in there with a knife!!!
