The question hinges on the definition of "closer". If all you are referring to is physical proximity, then the answer would be in no sense. If however, you are referring to our level of perception/awareness/knowledge of God, then it is absolutely not contradictory to posit that we would be significantly closer to God.

in heaven, there is no sin, no darkness, no night, no sorrow, so even though we have the joy and comfort of knowing God is with us here, when we get to heaven it will be so magnificent that words cannot describe.,how close walking with God feels in a perfect place.

We are given a ressurection body, and clothed in rightousness...... thus closer to God. Because we believed in the Lord Jesus Christs saving work on the cross.

Most of the time, God is not visible nor do we feel His presence.
Many Christians do feel His presence at times (some times stronger than others). Now and then some people have seen some of His glory (it looks like a light or fire).
