You sure are confused.
Saddam has done a few nasty things to the US and it's allies. And Saddam has cooperated with al quaida on several "projects". The meda and the Dems will never agree to this, but it is nevertheless true.
Saddam has murdered about half a milion of his own countrymen. You think it's none of your business? If so, I'm sure you never call the cops when a mugging or rape takes place (not to mention intervene).
Be it as it may, that war (against Saddam) is over and done with. It was over 6 weeks after it started- meaning nearly 4 years ago.
What is happening there today is a legal, democratically elected government trying to survive a terrorist campaign, and the coalition troops are helping. The US is not fixing anything that they bombed (taht's done years ago)- they are fixing things the "insurgents" keep blowing up- like hospitals, schools, market places and mosques.
And no, you don't have people in the same conditions in America. No one will kill you if your face is uncovered in public or your skirt is too short.

When the draft was created listing the reasons for beginning war with Iraq, when it was passed in congress, had over 30 reasons, everywhere from Iraq violating UN sanctions, to the iraqi leaderships killing their own people etc. WMD's were only 1 of 30 so whether they were there or not is irrelivant (although they DID find them, both in 91 and again in 06). We are at war, the difference is that their army is fighting with us against the proxy armys of the terror cells.

Radical Islam is at war with America. Staying here minding our own business caused 911. These radicals have been taking over the middle east since the 1930's . They want to control the oil and cripple the world economy. Saddam is part of their unholy alliance. He was taken out to destabilize their effort to control the region. We need a base for operation . To wage war against the Islamic Radicals. This thing is a lot bigger than you know. Bush has information that would scare you to death. Saddam caused the deaths of 2 Million people. He opposed the UN and weapons inspections. All the while he was working on offensive WMD's. Liberals will say he had none. Yet Mustard gas was dropped on his own people killing 180,000 Kurds. Look at the big picture. This war will last for at least 50 years. The war with Islamic extremists. (they want you dead)

I know this isn't going to make you feel any better, but we're not fixing what WE broke. That was done three years ago. We are actually fixing what Saddam broke over the course of the last 15 years.
You would be really pissed if I told you how much I have already spent in projects for the Iraqi communities...
Insurgencies are much more expensive to fight than conventional war.

Iraq is part of us in planet of apes.
They are the living examples paying the price at our expense for the blunders and slip-ups with human errors in idol worshiping the dead Mummy with skeleton of skull and bones getting caught by our creator with pants down in not worshiping God in planet of apes.

Except for Raoul, all the other answerers here are warmongering apologists who've been brainwashed with right-wing military propaganda.
They say: "We didn't blow up anything. The insurgents did. If we broke it, we already fixed it."
An outright fabrication, as everybody knows that the US preliminary bombing strategy of Shock & Awe destroyed most of the basic infrastructure. It is still under reconstruction, with basic water/power still only available part-time in Baghdad.
They say: "Saddam killed thousands of his own people." Yeah, when he was doing it, we were still supporting him and supplying him with weapons!!!! Where were we then???? Morally absent, I assume. So after he commits his crimes against humanity, we wait 15 years to go after him about it. It seems we were so upset, that it took us 15 years for we the self-appointed World's Policeman to get up & chase the "Bad Guy". So anybody who brings up the "Saddam was a criminal dictator" argument to justify the Iraq war is a political idiot. In any case, international police duty isn't the job of the US, but should be the mandate of the UN. International policemen should be asked to serve under its authority, instead of taking the Law into their own hands.
They say: "Radical Islamists want to kill us all."
Now, I wonder why that is? Could it possibly be because we pissed them off in some way???? They must be pretty upset about something if they want to kill another certain group of people 6,000 miles away 1/2 around the globe.
Maybe perhaps, it is because the US was operating military bases in Saudia Arabia, or supplying Israel with $3 billion in US high-tech weaponry EVERY YEAR? (This is what pissed off Bin Laden - read his fatwa.) Those "fanatics" are always complaining about American Imperialists taking over the world.
Now, could that be because we have over 7,000 nukes in our active arsenal, and over 700 overseas military bases scattered in 130 countries worldwide????? Could it be because the US is the biggest arms dealer on the planet, with 65% global market share???? Could it be because the US has engaged in 30 overt + covert military actions around the world since WW2??? (And nearly all illegal & without a UN mandate or even US congressional approval.) From one point of view, the US could be considered the world's most active terrorist state in the past 60+ years.
If we want others to stop killing & hating us, perhaps we should lower our military profile & stop being such a Global Bully all the time, killing people & destroying countries, and act more peacefully. What a revolutionary idea that is. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that war-hungry, missile-happy Republicans can even fit the idea of peace into their berserker barbarian brains. To them, every "threat" just needs to be blown & blasted away to kingdom come, with no exceptions, asking questions & finding out the truth later. Shoot 'em, smart bomb 'em, stealth bomb 'em, surge 'em, nuke 'em - whatever gets the job done for the sake of "freedom" & "national security" (funny how those words are always used to justify globally unpopular foreign wars).
Which makes this die-hard, bloodthirsty horde of Republican jihadists the greatest threat to world peace on Earth today, as well as in America. In control of the most powerful military the world has ever known, with the largest military-industrial complex to back it up, They are now the scariest, deadliest, and most dangerous people on the planet, and they need to be stopped.
One4God: Mr. Saddam Hussein was killing off all his political & civilian opponents & the Kurds ever since he took power in the 1950's (one of the longest enduring dictatorships before we knocked him off). Where were we for those 50 years???? My point is, the US normally doesn't act out of "humanitarian" or "democratic" interests, but rather out of its own perceived self-interests... even when that means supporting right-wing, genocidal dictatorships. "Democracy" & "Freedom" & "Human Rights" are all just lip-service marketing slogans by the politicians & generals (regardless of whether they are Dems or Repubs) to make American civilians & soldiers support these wars that most of the rest of the Free World are adamantly opposed to.
Noname: From the tone & content of your reply, you prove my point exactly about mindless, intolerant, psychopathic, blood-hungry Republicans. Personally, I'd rather die & be martyred in the name of world peace than be "saved" by your Fascistic ilk. You are an embarrassment & a dishonor to the American ideals of true Freedom, Democracy & Tolerance.

For the political value. It is like Rumsfeld said, " Afghanistan doesn't have any good targets".
You need good targets if you want people to watch your show; and people make great targets.

Why don’t you neocons read your own Republican congressional report on pre-war intelligence which documents the following?
- there were NO terrorists in Iraq before Bush invaded;
- there was no connection between Iraq and OBL, AQ, or any terrorist organization;
- Hussein did not provide training camps to terrorists;
- Hussein hated AQ before we did;
- Hussein did not hide al-Zargawi - he tried to have him arrested.

Iraq: unneeded pre-emptive war?
The Iraq war, the critics... I shake my head in disbelief in the narrow mindness of so many people that criticize the case for the war itself, criticisms a lot of the times not for valid reasons but personal attacks on the administration, ignorance or just political bias, instead of valid reasons such as the bad planning of the occupation after the victory of the invasion (which is the sole reason I do criticize it). As for the WMD topic, it is STILL a question open to the final chapter of history, since there are many "things" in the background and behind the scenes that most people will not have access to for some time to come, and to judge the war solely on the validity of that part without all the facts today of what is going on or what happened is not judging it on its entirety, and as a consequence an incorrect judgment. Now, there is another part of the Iraq war that most people do not think of AT ALL.
Think of the world current problems as a bigger situation (scale) of the situation in the movie The Accused, the 1988 production with Kelly McGillis and Jodie Foster. Just like in that movie, the guilty parties were NOT just the violators who committed the crime directly, but ALSO the ones that instigated and set the conditions for it, like the cheering crowds at that bar in the movie, current terrorists (the "violators" in this case) that are attacking the west, democracy and the US (the victim) are fueled by outlaw regimes (the "instigators" and "cheering crowds"), like Iran, Syria, the former Iraq of dictator Saddam, who gave money to known terrorists, who gave safe heaven to know terrorists, who spoke about the destruction of the west, and who by violating countless of UN resolutions again and again and again facilitated in part the conditions in this world for 9/11 to occur directly and/or indirectly!
So, to say that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and that all we should have concentrated on just to capture Osama and destroy Alqaeda, and that everything else or everyone else is a separate problem, specially in the Middle East is very narrow minded and idiotic at best. Iraq, and Syria, and Iran, and North Korea may not have pulled the trigger themselves, sort of speak in 9/11, but, and THIS is very important, they are as guilty, and as much part of it as the fanatical terrorist of Alqaeda for all the murders and terrorism in this current terrorism war indirectly. And just like in that good movie, were Kelly McGillis goes after cheering crowds at that bar to punished them for their role in that crime, which was as BIG a contributor for that crime to occur as the rapist themselves, so should the decent nations of this world, (including the US) go after all those regimes (including Iraq) that feed and encourage hate and destruction in this world, and who have contributed to the attacks of 9/11 and many others terrorist attacks in this world. Then and only then, will this world be a world of order and peace.
The current terrorism did not come out of nothing, it did not just "appear" out of nowhere, it is the culmination of decades of repression, abuses, and animalistic behavior in parts of this world like Syria, Iran, Iraq and others, of political alliances and maneuvers by groups or governments. And ignoring all those others involvement in it, and trying to appease them will not make us any safer or will make the danger to "go way"! It won't. Appeasement will only buy you time, but in the end it will only make things worse, only look at the failed League of Nations and the dealing with Hitler by the Europeans in the late 1930's for an example on how misguide that approach is. This is the time to stand up, to fight against the forces of chaos, of horror, of violence with the extreme violence of war if we have to, since it is our very survival as a decent civilization that is at stake, to face ALL the parties involved and to make our stance, because if we do not, be prepare to pay dearly in the future, and to see worse attacks to come, not just some planes into buildings killing thousands, but perhaps nuclear weapons going off in cities killing millions!
It is your call world...your call!
