I follow Jesus not the pastor.

I would stay with my current church. I have seen pastor followers before. We have even had a few come into our church when we get a new pastor, but you know not to depend on them for much, because they will be gone when the pastor moves on. I have maintained contact with some former pastors, and we actually go out to eat about once a month with a former pastor and his wife, but I won't follow them. We are called to follow God and Christ, and if you get into the practice of following a man, you can miss what God has planned for you.

I'd make the decision based on several factors. The pastor would be way down on the list. Fist would be does the church family follow the Bible or follow teachings of men? If they follow the Bible and that alone, then I would look for the people. They should be humbly, earnestly trying to follow God - Nonjudgmental, compassionate, helpful. Then I would look at the pastor(s) to make sure they are somebody who follows God and meets the same criteria as the body. Whichever "church" is closest to those standards and meets the needs of the community is where I would go!

Been through that mess.

I followed the pastor. I realized there were too many inconsistencies with the structure of the denomination, and didn't believe in some of the tennants. The Pastor had the same beliefs as I and was eventually forced out of the denomination. I went to his new church and he did quite well.

In the end my belief system changed again and I am very aware of the many inconsistencies within all religion.

I will follow Christ.

I would ask why he is leaving? Put His motives to the test of the spirit. are the reasons "religious" or out of a relationship with Christ.

We were told not to create divisions in the church. Why is he dividing the church?

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
1Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

MOTIVES?

I would stay with my current church. I follow the Lord, not a man.

Pastors are not going have Freedom of Speech or Freedom of Religion for much longer, if the liberals have their way.

They won't be able to say that homosexuality is an abomination.

Considering I am Roman Catholic, I would not follow a Priest who set up his own church. This would be heresy. That said, the Priest who married my wife and I has been reassigned. One of these days we will go visit him at his new parish.

I go to church to hear the word of God, not of the pastor. A pastor will speak the words God gave him, his message will be from God only if he was called to preach by God.
