when my terrier wants attention she will snap at your face which is bad IMO. When she does I spank her and put her in her crate and ignore her. I just got her so hopefully I will be able to break her of this bad habit. I suggest you just ignore the dog because he does not deserve attention if he is going to be a jerk to you.

Please visit your vet to be sure he's OK. He may be in pain. Barring any sort of physical problem, I would say - if he were my dog, I'd totally ignore the whining. In fact, I would put him in a time out every time he tried to whine to get what he wanted - so I'd probably be making may, many trips back and forth to his time-out place (any 'boring' room is OK for this - any place where he can't continue to self-reinforce. No toys, no chewies during a time-out.) It's his choice! He can stay out and not whine, play fabulous games and learn tricks for treats (I would be doing a LOT of this) - or, he can whine. Whoops. Instant trip to time-out. No need to yell, or punish. The message that you send by totally ending the game will work just fine.
Counter the time-outs with lots of interactive play. You are not trying to teach your dog that "you're the boss" - just that there are consequences for unwanted behaviors. Don't forget to reward the good stuff, too!
Remember that dogs learn by repetition. Be patient - especially f he's been doing this for w while, he's gotten used to "I whine = I gets what I wants!"
HTH.

I don't know how old your dog is, but he is a terrier and terriers like to be top dog - especially boys! (There's a message in there somewhere!) I have a border terrier and he knows I'm boss. We rescued him when he was 4 mths old and he bonded with me very quickly. He knows who's boss and he needs to know his place. His little friend who comes to stay is also a boy terrrier and he used to growl when I picked him up, or dried him when he was wet. But I told him off, and again, I'm afraid he knows who is boss. Nowadays, he resigns himself to the fact that I will do anything necessary to him, and he resigns himself to the fact. However, when he wants to still play with us after having a long stint of playing, and we say that's enough, he will sometimes tend to argue vocally. The secret with us is be kind but firm and let them know you are in charge, or else they'll rule you. Bearing this in mind, you know your own dog best.

My old house mates had the same dog, it was the most annoying thing i have ever laid eyes on. It does exactly what yours does by the sound of it. He will stand on his back legs until you pick him up and when you grab him he growls.

While i lived there i bought a dog, and he was really hyper and the Terrier always used to attack him so I had to move out, but yes this seems to be a current occurence in these breeds of dog.

Has he always been this way?if this is a sudden change in personality then it could be that your dog is in pain.I would take him to the vet for a check up,as most sudden changes in behaviour are pain related esp as your dog keeps begging to be held.It could be pain in his legs or even a slipped disc somewhere.Good luck.

I would say he is either in pain (get him checked out by the vet) or something in your circumstances has changed so that he is feeling left out or anxious.
Certainly discourage the whining by using a time-out room or a training cage and immediately put him back on the floor or in the time-out room any time he snaps at you or anyone else.

My Min Pin did the same thing. She would whine to be picked up and then when I did pick her up she would start growling and try to bite my face. I got her out of that quick. Everytime she did that I would pop her butt and say NO NO. then put her down. She finally got the message.

this means that your dog is showing some affection to you, spending more time with your dog helps with your relation as master and pet..

knowing your growing up, as a person, you could not find time with your dog and you prefer to hang with your own kind, in short you want to be with a human. And your pet notice this. So because your pet is a bit show off, try to spend more time with your pet more than your own kind.
