It's funny how many people think they are philosophers when they answer these types of questions. They have to go way off the subject instead of simply giving a simple answer. One of the answers made a good deal of sense. People need to see an image. They cant just take it in faith. People question and wander what is the right religion, what is the right god. It's actually very easy. Look at the fruit of the tree (the tree being the religion & the fruit being the followers). Which tree is the one that bares the most believable concept?

Which means look at the followers of the different religions and what they believe in. For example" Buddists believe when you die, you will come back as an animal, or a reincarnation of something or someone. Does that make any sense? That is humanly impossible, and makes no sense to constantly change into different animals, they are a whole different spieces than humans. Most people go to church or hall or temple yet when they walk out they go back to sinning, cursing, drinking heavyly and so on and so on. So does that religion make any sense, if their own followers to follow their teachings? Look at the fruit of the tree, and it will lead you to the rightous ones.

There is one and only one Supreme Being known as GOD. He is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent meaning thereby that he is All-pervading and found everywhere whether he is revered or not and bestows his benevolence equally amongst all living things starting with the lowly amoeba upwards.

Only the different ways of reaching him are many depending on the Diversity of the Human-Race similar to the varied customs and culture followed by them. But they are all Means to the same End, the Universal Truth the All-Loving, the All-Caring, the All-Embracing without Discrimination of any kind.

All the Riots, Wars, etc fought in his name ultimately bleeds the same Universal God and are aroused by vested persons of narrow mindset for their own selfish means, for short-term gains, forgetting in the process that they and they alone will be meted out the Final Divine Dispensation by Him irrespective of what their own religion might preach, meaning thereby that there is a Universal Law which super cedes all man-made religions which do not conform to that Law, which preaches Universal Love and Respect for All Living Things, however high or low, which are but His Beloved Creations. .

God has no religion or there are many different Gods. When God is all pervading everything is God and nothing else can be there? The whole universal creation is the imagination of God.What ever you see through the eyes the whole universe is false. Sun moon planets stars do not exist in reality.Creation exists only in ignorance.Like in dream we experience real life.We feel sorrow when bad things happen. We feel happy when good things happen .As long as we dream we feel we think the things are really happening,Only when wake up we know every thing was false.whole life events in dream might have taken few seconds. So time laps is also false. When we are in sorrow few hours will look like many days passed and in happiness many days are few moments.everything is illusory.

God is one. He has blessed many souls, and these blessed souls have only the authority to preach about religions.

They have done it since ages, and it was after considering the compulsions of the comtemporary times and the then prevailing culture.

So from time to time saints have addressed to us apparantly in differentl ways. But the essence has always been the same.

Yet we have applied our intellect and therefore there has been serious distortions in the practice of following the religions.

It is hard to believe, but a true saint will always tell you to shun the scriptures. He will even tell you not to go to the temples and churches. Because if you could benefit from those, a person with a higher intellect or better resources at his disposal would have had easier access to God.

It is the adamant nature in us , which does not make it possible for a true saint to come to our rescue.

God does not have any entity-no form,no colour ,no religion and resides inside the heart of all beings.Since we do not have any vision to look into our inside,we take external help which is expressed in different forms and figures .But they are to be discarded once one reaches higher spiritual level which is very difficult since our minds form a bondage with the material form.
However, this can easily be removed when one meditates at his heart . This method is followed by most spiritual seekers of various religions ,when they visualised the Eternal truth / Divine Light. The followers of these spiritual seekers formed the sect or religion as we know today. What was the religion of Buddha, Jesus or Mohammad ? They taught of One God.Even the Hindus ,who worship many Gods, are supposed to be worshipping only one God as described in their religious book-Vedas

God is one then why do people follow so many different religions and worship so many different Gods?

why don't we have one universal religion and one God? Who is God in reality and in which form does he exist?

Is there one origin to all existence?

What is the nature of that origin?

Is that origin something or nothing?

How could the origin be nothing?

How could the supreme origin be something?

How could the Supreme Origin be a Supreme Being?

We cannot say the Supreme Origin is nothing and how can we say there is anything there in the Supreme Origin since ordinary logic suggests that something/anything has to have originate from something.

So we choose between the Supreme Origin being some kind of nothingness or impersonal energy, or we choose the Supreme Origin is the Supreme Being.

What are the benefits of believing the Supreme Origin of all things is a Supreme Being?

Believing the Supreme Origin is a Supreme Being gives us someone we can relate to.

Assuming the Supreme Origin has an identity as the Supreme Being then the ultimate truth behind the existence of anything and everything and everyone has personal identity in relationship with this one Supreme Identity, the Supreme Being.

If we have this conflict between the ultimate origin being impersonal and personal, then if we accept that the Supreme Origin is a Supreme Being, then "He" could logically have many forms including a form that is most ideal. A most ideal for would be one of everfresh beauty and youth. Both male and female genders are coming from God. I still think it is best to refer to God as "He" since he suggests the positive or first attribute.

Since human society remains confused about God they worship God in different forms. Some of those forms of God may not be real. Similarly, it is the confusion of human beings that results in so many different religious beliefs and paths.

We cannot force everyone to accept one belief in God and one path of religion. If we feel our religion is the best we need to prove it so well that everyone is convinced. Otherwise, we cannot force people to accept our belief.

Wow... You got so many beautiful illustrative examples. Mine would be rather short one.

Doesn't matter how you refer your dad. You may call him Daddy, or Abba, or Papa, etc. You may refer your mom as Mother, or Maa, or Amma, or Ammi, etc. All that matters is refereence with due respect. As you have a bit of your Dad and Mom in you, the same way you have the aura of God in you.

Religions are just various paths to the same destination. It's not possible for people from different cultures to follow the same path.

All the best...

:-)

Every man thinks differently. In hindu culture they say there are 33 crore devas . . this is because at the time the population of the world was 33 crore. Every individual has his/her own God.

Ultimately, each religion is just another path to reach the same God.

Friend,

There are so many varieties of sweets available.

ALL ARE SWEETS.WHY ALL EAT ONE SWEET?

why there are so many types? Each likes his own taste.

In Hinduism, unlike other religions, each and every thing that exists is GOD himself.
They have learnt the art of seeing divinity in every thing , so each thing is a god. They gave some name.
As humans we differ in our likings. What I like you May not.
Similarly one likes Ganesh,Other likes Lakshmi and another saraswati and so on.But whatever shape you worship it is the divine nature that is being worshipped. There is only ONE ABSOLUTE.These are the different names given, different shapes given.By doing so no harm is done. The greatness of seeing divinity in all humans,in all animals ,in all plants animate and inanimate things is seen only in Hinduism.

So. pray anything with faith and devotion and love. You will be getting benifitted.

Read Yoga vaashistam for further enlightenment, if you can, please.
