You already did what you needed to do. You looked at yourself and honestly admitted where the problem lies. Admitting your selfishness is like an alcoholic admitting they like drinking. Now you have to decide whether or no t you want to move past that, but it's your personal decision to make. Yours, and yours alone. Good luck.

Hi,
I am not sure that it is time to get more religious as it is to develop a relationship. You see religion will reply on the law and it bocomes dry and not exciting. It does not benefit you at all. it is like marriage, you do get intimate because of law, but due to relationship as each gives of themselves for the benefit of the other.
That is how it is with the Lord. Get into a realtionship with Him. David despite all his faults was a man after God's Heart. Moses was His friend and all the apostles were His children. Do you see that the basis is relatioship. Now the important part of this is that when it is based on relationship, you hear from God, you walk with God and then you can begin to get the benefits of that reationship.
It is not by work by faith through grace that we are save. And when you have a true relationship you will work hard to keep the law and that is when the benefits begin to overtake you. You do not commit adultery when you really love your spouse. It is when the love has wained or you are having difficulties.
I hope I have been of help. Get to a Bible Believing Church and you will be shown and taught what I am saying.

When you are in trouble, you are hearing His voice calling out to help you. If you ask Him for help from your heart, then you will be helped. Maybe not in that second, but very soon you will notice a change around you, because you asked for help the right way.
As the classic goes.... Take it to The Lord in prayer!
I was very similar to you before, got too busy with stuff and didnt have time, but anytime is the right time to speak to God.
When someone like your mother who would do anything to help you to be ok says things, really it's The Lord letting you know that He's there whenever you CHOOSE to open your heart.
It's not easy, no way, especially if you have issues with yourself. Don't give yourself such a hard time. There is nothing wrong with being sensivitve, it is one of the key qualities to humility. Oh yeah, and He is always waiting for you to come back. Remember, that's where you went away from. Seeking forgiveness is not easy because we must look at ourselves. You are doing this already which is a very good thing to do.
Go to a Spiritual Church and ask about a Healing Circle, go and see how you feel after.
Your inner light is calling out to your mind, to be nurured and develped. Spiritual Churches are the Truthful way to help you look inside yourself and find your way.
If you need anything just ask me, and I will try and help you.
Look forward...
Peace

It helps a lot to be in contact with other Christians. Find a church or a group of Christians that inspire you. It's hard to stand strong on your own. If you like reading, read some books about Christianity that suit your taste. Also, find something to help you with Bible study.
Believe me, it's worth the effort. A relationship with God gives you peace and liberates you to become the person you are meant to be. You are lucky to have a mom who is probably praying for you, and I can see it paying off!

Talk to God about it. He'll understand and hear you. I dont go to church either or practice my faith too much either. But I make sure to thank God everyday for giving me the opportunity to see another beautiful day. No matter if it's raining and cold. I thank God, because to me another day of life is a blessing. Just remember that in the end... everything in your life and in the world, it's always between YOU and GOD ... no one else.

S'okay. God knows you're selfish and lazy, you're only human after all but He still would like a relationship with you.
By the way, I've been saved for 24 years, since I was 17, I don't go to church now (which really annoys my sister and niece) and very rarely read my Bible (even though I love it when I do) but I'm still saved.

My friends you are not lazy, you are just human ! All humans in their nature are like that, they turn to God only when they are sad or depressed or stuck some how ! But you know what makes a virtuous man ? Being close to God at all times, and remember to thank him and express your gratitude towards him in sickness and in health just as you would do with your dearest friend !
Also search for God in other places, it's not necessarily the God your parents introduced you to because after all your parents could have a different approach to God than the other 6 billion people around the globe!
Me personally I found it in the God of Islam, the ultimate God, a God that placed us on this earth to test our loyalty to him, he makes us rich and poor, he inflicts problems upon us but quickly solves them for us to test our patient and trust in him !
Allah is great, Allah is merciful, Allah is omnipotent and as long as you keep him in your heart, your heart can never die !!
Salam !

It sounds like you are battling between your intellect, which knows deep down that there is no such thing as god, and your respect for your mum. As painful as it may be, you need to accept reality. You can live a good and meaningful life without pretending you have a relationship with a non-existent being.

I heard that few years ago and it inspired me:
To believe in God you don't have to go to church.
God is something that should always be in your heart.
Not just in some walls or buildings or a statue or a bible.
It is something that you believe in inside your heart.
If it's inside of your true kind heart, then it's already more than enough.

no one could help you, only you. i am a christian too and back in my country i am very religoius, going to church every sunday but when i came here, it's been 4 yrs now that i'm not been to church except for special occasions, due to busy life in UK and being lazy too. but deep in my heart i'm worshipping my lord. you don't need to go to church everyday just to be with him, he's everywhere, you can talk to him and think about him, ask him to guide your way everyday. the only thing to be close to him is put him inside your heart just like how you love your special someone. i know he will understand if we can't go to church as long as you give him a place inside your heart. you just have to start this practice with yourself and no one else...only you!
