wet dog food. Is it possible that these pet food companies have been poisoning our animals for a lot longer than they are letting on? If so ,are there any ideas as to what we can do to get them to fess up?

I had a dog die mysteriously last fall, eating dry dog food tho.

I don't know if we need them to ' fess up ' but I do think that we need the people in control, to make these pet food companies responsible. I think they need better testing BEFORE the product leaves the factory, and I think that they should use quality ingredients in all their foods, making sure that no matter what I feed my pet, they are getting the nutrition necessary. If they can't keep up to that, then they should get out of the business.

Alot of the pet food companies are owned by larger companies that make food for people. They use the useless by products left over from people food
(WHICH BY THE WAY IS RECALLED ALL THE TIME ) to produce pet foods. So basically the pets are eating out of the dumpster.

With the money that is to be made in the pet food industry, I think they can do a whole lot more to make a nutritious food for pets.

I don't know what the answer is, cause if you force out the little crappy dog food producer, that leaves only the big guys, and you are either forced to spend huge amounts on food or you are going to get them producing less quality foods.

The problem is Profit... If you can hit them in their profit, then they'll have no choice but to do something. It's really too bad that it is so hard to cook at home and make sure that you are providing nutritionally for your pets. I don't have a problem cooking and making foods for the dogs, but I am afraid that I will unbalance things and cause them more problems.

There could be many reasons why your dog died. Dog food companies are in the business of making money, reports of dead dogs simply aren't good for business. While not all the food is of the highest quality, there is simply no reason why a dog food company would knowingly market food that was contaminated. I don't have blind faith in every company but companies who respond quickly to problems survive recalls such as this much better than those that don't. Remember the Tylenol scare a few years ago? - the company fessed up and did everything they could to make things right and their reputation recovered quickly. It is a case study used in business school regularly of how to handle a crisis. Good business dictates you resolve major safety problems quickly if you want to survive.

I did have a dog get sick after eating a major brand of dry dog food a couple of years ago. I called the company, they were very concerned, sent me a pre-paid package to send in a sample of the food so that they could test it and they sent a coupon for a free bag. They indicated that occasionally bagged food will sit on the shelf too long at a store and it can spoil and cause illness. They suspected that's what happened in my case. So it's important to check sell by dates and for pet stores to check their inventory, not over-order and turn over the food on their shelves quickly. Canned food may have a longer shelf life but it too should not be held too long.

I am truly sorry your dog died - I know what a devastating experience it can be.

Do not blame pet food manufacturer. They do not put poison in foods they manufacture. Being in Business, they have to maintain their reputation. It is a normal symptom found in domesticated dog and cats. When they are very hungry, they simply jump on it and gulp in a hurry, with out chewing it . This causes blockage in their respiratory track. resulting in breathing problem, chocked lungs and sudden death. In wild, animals or birds, take their own sweet time to eat, they chew it slowly before letting food inside the digestive system. Only exception in wild are snakes, particularly Pythons. Some time they try to swallow over sized animals and gets its own end.

hi! What you point out isn't unusual as we tend to grow to be very on the brink of our pets and cope with them as though they are our toddlers - so so which you could 'sense' their presence isn't any ask your self. I easily have had countless canine and that i might desire to admit that I do nevertheless refer to them and sing the stupid songs I used to sing them. additionally they have their own place interior the astral and sooner or later, as with human beings, you will meet them back...i watch for seeing my canine ( and cats ) back.
