My husband has recently enlisted in the Army. Because of his prior work experience they have placed him in Petroleum to go to Ft. Lee after he has completed basic training. Where are they usually stationed afterwards? All I read about is that they are trained and sent to combat. We were told because of his age and our children that he would not go, now I am terrified because that is all I see is them sending him. Can anyone please let me know what the odds for a petroleum supply specialists are for having to serve overseas?

Everyone has to server overseas. Petroleum specialists are in the quartermaster corps and they are needed everywhere.

Yea...I think the whole age/children thing might have been an exageration...If he is assigned to a unit that is deploying to Iraq, they're not going to leave him behind due to those reasons.

Anyway, as was already stated, Army Petroleum specialists are needed everywhere, but for the most part, are assigned to combat suport and combat service support units across the board. You won't, for example, typically find an entry-level one assigned to basic training posts, other training posts (such as Fort Leavenworth) or "TDA" units that do not deploy due to their mission. The fact of the matter is that Petroleum guys are typically needed where the action is...and unfortunately, the action right now is in the desert.

He may very well get lucky and be assigned to a unit that is not slated for deployment in the near future...there is a VERY good chance of that, because despite popular opinion around here, the entire Army is not in Iraq at the moment, but there is always a chance that ANY Soldier, despite age/martial status/children/MOS will deploy.

Wherever there are army vehicles that need gas, there you will find petroleum specialists.

By the way, the guarantee of a permanent party post after Basic is only for the first posting. After that, you have absolutely no say in where the Army sends you. And a typical one-enlistment soldier will have at least two or three permanent party postings during his/her enlistment.

That's one thing the Army never voluntarily tells you when you sign up.

Because of his age and children he won't be deployed? What is his age and what about your children would prevent that?
