You'll have to repaint unfortunately. Use a good paint like Benjamin Moore. You may not have to put 2-3 coats on if you use a primer first, which is what I would recommend. Before you paint over every wall, try leaving one wall dark and stand back and see if you like that.. sometimes its very dramatic, and not so over the top. I personally like that look. If you have a fireplace in the room that might be the wall to leave dark and you can paint the fireplace the lighter color unless its stone or brick , then you wouldn't touch it. Good Luck

Certainly...Buy a lighter paint is the first option.. May take more than one coat even though some paints advertise a one coat application..Going to a place like Home Depot (there are others of course) and they can come up with many, many shades of ALL COLORS that they can produce through their mixers and such...good luck

you could always buy a lighter accent color then rag roll or sponge paint it on top of the dark color. I used gold on a dark purple in a bedroom, it was beautiful

Prime it with a white or lighter primer, and paint it a lighter color. :)

You can buy a primer called Kilz. Paint it over the existing paint wait for it to dry thoroughly and then paint your new color.

Try lightening the room by painting one or more walls a faux marble. It blends well with the darker walls. See how to do it here http://www.familiesonlinemagazine.com/faux-marble.html
