Instead of giving him extremely harmful drugs and getting him hooked into being a drug addict, why don't you just work his butttt off to where he is tired and has no problem going to sleep. I am sorry, but this is really stupid. He needs exercise. Make him do chores; ie mow the lawn, rake leaves, shovel snow, plant a garden. Or, make him go outside and play and get fresh air. Ride a bike, go hiking in the woods, etc....
You are slowly killing him if you are posting a serious question.
Parents that actually drug their children like this should not be allowed to have kids.

Did you bother to ask him why??? Maybe it is upsetting his stomach, making him feel nauseated or having some other distressing reaction for him......... If you try warm milk and a banana before bed the combination of calcium and magnesium is a natural relaxant and will more than likely solve his inability to unwind and sleep ............ :0)

**** O.k., well that makes my answer a bit insignificant then !! Now that the question is clearer, I think that someone has already said that you need to investigate further to find a med which he is comfortable with. Don't lose sight of the fact that these drugs are very heavy duty and he really is the only one who should be making the decision on which med is making him feel the best. Perhaps get a second opinion?? I know it's stressfull but most of the time Doctors out there really are just stabbing blind as far as appropriate meds go. You see, there are no cures as such for mental illnesses, just a variety of measures to make our lives more tolerable so to speak.
I was diagnosed with bipolar/schizophrenia 5 years ago and it was no picnic getting treated like a guinea pig till we found the medication that me feel the best that I ever would.
GOOD LUCK

I love how your name is naturally and you are using an anti-anxiety for your son to sleep. I wouldn't answer this without knowing how old is your son and what the heck a Dr. was thinking putting him on Xanax for a "sleeping problem" even if the poor kid is having night terrors or bed wetting issues there are a lot of other solutions then to drug him.

Yes Xanax is crushable. My first question is why does he refuse to take it? If he just hates taking medicine or pills then fine but if there is a deeper reason like he doesn't like how it makes him feel or something else along those lines then you all need to talk to the doctor to find out what he recommends. I also wonder why the doc chose Xanax for sleep as this is an anti-anxiety med not something for sleep.

yes it would have same effect , but maybe there is a reason for son not wanting to take it mabe you need to ask him how it makes him feel when he takes it and do some research on the drug maybe he is haveing a reaction to the drug and dont know how to explain it to you i tell my childeren to make sure and let me know how they feel when they take anything because i my self trust very few doctors , and medications any more . maybe it is bringing his heart rate down to slow and scareing him , check for swelling in his hands and face in the a.m after he takes it hope this helps ya childeren are funny in there own way huh

OMG, he's getting Xanax? How old is he??
Well, I can tell you that Xanax does come in a liquid form. If he won't take the pill, then tell the doctor to change it to liquid.

why is not your son medicated daily with drugs so as to when night time comes he is ready for sleep it sound to me like he is under medicated a good doctor would adjust his medication so he will fall asleep. iam sure you do not want to have to comit your son to a mental facility. you should fix this as soon as possible you are playing with fire in my practice i have seen many cases where extreme sleep loss causes a complete nervous breakdown some cases that are lifelong incare service care get his drugs adjusted before he has to be comitted
