it takes time to open as there is a lot to open

Have you tried switching on your scanner and then rebooting? Sometimes the scanner driver will not load once the Operating System is up and running.

Scanners, in general, go into standby mode during a period of idleness.
When accessed they are ,' starting from cold' and often the message displayed says, "Please wait the scanner is warming up".

This can happen to more than people's scanners! Patience is a virtue dont just carry on regardless lol
