I am moving to LA in August. I am looking at apartments at Mid Wilshire, West Hollywood and Mccarthur Park. Which is the better of the three, or any other suggestions? Which has the most stuff to do near by?

Probably Mid-Wilshire although I'm not completely sure where "Mid Wilshire" is, if it's WEST of La Brea it's pretty good, East of La Brea starts to get a lttle worse.

West Hollywood is a pretty nice area, but it does have some crime issues, it can be tough to park in, and is very expensive for what you get. Auto Insurance, particularly is very expensive there.

MaCarthur Park is NOT a good area.

All 3 have TONS of stuff nearby, it just depends what it is YOU like to do. MaCarthur Park is very near Downtown, so you have shopping, a lot of restaurants, Olvera Street, and the subway (yes we DO have one!) to take you elsewhere.

Mid Wilshire is best known for the Art Museums.

West Hollywood has the "Sunset Strip", so that's the place to be for Comedy Shows, Dancing, and the "Nightlife".

Hope this helps, I've lived here all my life so let me know if you have any other questions.

Mid Wilshire is probably the best, but you will pay the most amount of $$$. West Hollywood is also good, and expensive. There is a large Russian and homosexual population in West Hollywood. MacArthur Park is to be avoided. There is a lot of gang and drug activity in MacArthur Park and neighboring Westlake District. Hope this helps.

Well the answer from clueless above is not a clueless answer it is a good one.
Absolutely right re. "MID-WILSHIRE"---Wilshire goes for many, many miles and your mid wilshire may not be mine...Frankly, realtors like to say anything in the slightest vicinity is mid -whilshire to make it sound like a better location than it really is...So you will have to check this out yourself. The term has no real meaning...Is it west of the tar pits?? Gee, Beverly Hills could fairly be called mid wilshire, it goes all the way to Santa Monica, I think!!!!
Any where west of North Le Brea, North of Wilshire and East of Beverly Hills should be pretty good...But check it out...

NOT McCarthur Park! It is a place to get fake ID's and to get mugged.

West Hollywood is great as long as you are tolerant of alternative lifestyles. This is closest to most of the best shopping and nighlife.

Mid Wilshire is okay too but would not be my choice.

lucky13, your comments are offensive.

besides, he may be looking for russians and gays.

other posters are correct about mid-wilshire and WeHo.

donna summers may have sung a song about macarthur park, put like the old saying goes, it's a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there.
