Sounds like you're on to a winner! GO FOR IT!
I asked a guy to my Yr 12 Formal (Aussie equivalent to the Prom) as he was working stackjing the shelves at the supermarket! My legs were shaking and I went completely red!
He came with me, but I never told him I liked him and I found out a year later he had liked me back! TOO LATE! We never saw each other and I had a boyfriend by then.
So don't live with my regret, ask him to the Prom, but ALSO make sure you make your intentions known...ie. wanting to date...not just have him as your Prom partner! :P

talk around the subject. Ask him what his thoughts are on the subject in general. Questions like, does he like to dance? Does he know how to dance? has he ever been to a prom before? Supplement that by telling him that you'd feel comfortable going with someone like him. Someone that you know. Tell him how you feel.
Guys in general are topic specific. if you ask something or talk about a specific idea or thought, then they will understand where you are coming from. If you talk in riddles, guys are lost.

listen baby i dont like those things but here a proposal: spread a lie that someone told you that another guy likes you. when he learns that he will stop being shy and will ask you to go out. another one, start talking about movies and say that you dont go often, or something like that, because you dont have the right companie, and he will do the job.another, ask him if he intends to ask you out(if you are almost sure), and tell him to do it .

What's wrong with being "too obvious"?
The problem with girls, as far as boys are concerned, is the boy never knows whether she's going to reject him or not, which would make him feel terrible. So he's afraid to ask.
If you're sure he likes you, which you seem to be, you've got one up on him, because he's not sure if you like him. So make it obvious!

I think you should ask him. I've always been the type to make the first move and I find that most guys are really into that.

i think of that is okay to tell your chum why you cried. do not supply her the downside of donning your emotional bags although. i comprehend you're having a coarse time and that i will in basic terms think of ways you sense. that is ultimate to describe issues to her and as a solid chum, she might desire to convenience you. i don't think of that is gruesome if a guy cries. It purely exhibits how human and emotional they could be. oftentimes they modern this alpha male determine and that is fresh to work out them susceptible and gentle. we are all human, and in spite of gender, all of us have the ultimate to particular our thoughts :) solid luck to you.

Just ask him. Why is it a contest? That line of thinking will get you no where. Ask him.
