Body mass index (BMI) is a measurement based on height and weight as it relates to body fat, and can be used to determine how much risk a person has of developing certain health problems because of his or her weight. As a point of reference, someone with a BMI of 27 is approximately 20 percent overweight. The higher the BMI, the greater the risk a person has to develop additional health problems.

Keep this in mind. The BMI Calculator says my BMI is 18.5% and my bf who has alot and I mean ALOT less fat on him the BMI Calculator says he is 22% so I don't think it is that acurate.

You can use the Body Mass Index to find out if your are at healthy weight for your height. If you know your height and weight, you can work out which weight range you're in. Body Mass Index (BMI) = Weight (KGS) / ( Height (METER) ) ^ 2 Body type is found out using: If your BMI is less than 18.4 you are underweight for your height. If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 you're an ideal weight for your height. If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9 you're over the ideal weight for your height. If your BMI is between 30 and 39.9 you're obese. If your BMI is over 40 you're very obese. You could also download a BMI calculator from internet

Body Mass Index =Weight (kg) divided by height squared (meters squared).
It simply assumes that if 2 people are the same weight, then the shorter person is fatter. This is not accurate because many bodybuilders have high BMI's but extremely low body fat percentages.
