I was trying to look up immigration, marriage, and death records for Paul Lechler and John Hadley!

Be careful of what you find online. Research is only as good as the researcher. Use the internet as a tool only not as the truth. Start with yourself, then your parents, then grandparents. Use birth, death and marriage certificates. Ellis Island is one of many places that folks came into the U.S.
Documents are your best bet.

Hey David,

Family Search.com is the best free and first place to look. Then you can try Ellis Island.com depending on their immigration path , I assume you mean to the USA. Birth Records would be from the location of their birth, Marriage, depends on where they were married. But Death should be a certificate in the US if they died here.

There was only one entry for Paul in Family Search, but 187 entries for John.

Try also the GENFORUM for the surnames. Ellis Island is free. Here are some immigration sites too.

You could try any of these sites .
www.ancestry.co.uk they have a free bmd section, you can search the records but you cant download anything.
www.familysearch.org/eng this is the Mormon site and it is completely free and you can download stuff. Hope this helps you good luck, Diane.

I found my family tree on geneology.com

they showed me everything I already have plus some.

however, in order to contact anyone in it you have to pay something.

go to your local or the county clerks office in the courthouse where they lived and see if they have any info
