The kitchen is bright yellow on top and red uder the molding. The molding is bright white. I can't change the kitchen my husband picked it and had it done already so I am trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my house to match it. My carpets are off white and my furniture is dark green in livingroom and black and gold in dinningroom.

Without getting gaudy, you can use some nice transitional colors to perk up your house. Examples:

If you paint your hallways an antiqued parchment color, you can paint the rooms coming off it with periwinkle blue, pear green, surfboard yellow (it's a Ralph Lauren color that's pretty close to the perfect yellow for most rooms), soft coral, soft terra cotta, sand dune, glass blue or green, aqua, rose, etc. Then for continuity, use the same satin or semi-gloss soft white for your doors and trim.

When you get more creative, you can also take two colors from adjoining rooms and use them for a 3rd room. For instance, you could do one bedroom in aqua, another in pear green, then bring them together to do stripes of both for the bathroom between them.

I'd also suggest taking your time. 10 rooms is a lot of painting. So break it down in a room here, a room there. Get a feel for how things are developing and take clues from your results. You might find the perfect aqua and love the way it works in one room and decide that you'd love to pair it with a soft Swiss chocolate brown for a guest room. Nothing says you can't repeat colors. Just make them flow naturally and feel good wherever they're used.

Have fun and I hope you enjoy your project.

What I would do is paint the living room/dining room, family room if it is on the same level the same color and that would be a golden beige color. This will pick up the yellow in the kitchen. In the living room try to bring in some deep red maybe with throw pillows and accessories such as a vase etc to pick up red in kitchen. What I would do is bring home some paint chips from the paint store. Put them on the walls and see if you like them. If bedrooms are upstairs or in another wing of the house you can paint them individual colors such as gold, light celery green, a rosy red for a girls room. If I were you I would watch HGTV. Home and Garden Television. You can really get some ideas for your home. P.S. in your kitchen I would get some accessories such as maybe roosters with the red and yellow colorings, or apples, in ceramics such as set of dishes, teapot in red, cookie jar, plates, pitcher, clock. Work with it, don't fight it and it will be beautiful.

My husband and I recently found a color at Lowe's that seems to work well with just about anything. It's hard to know without being able to see the exact shades of red and yellow that you're talking about, but it might be worth a shot.

In the paint section at Lowe's, they should have a collection of colors by Eddie Bauer. "Winter Wheat" is a lovely, warm, neutral shade. It may or may not work for you, but I figure any suggestion is a place to start. (Also, there's no need to buy the actual Eddie Bauer paint - just have them color match!)

My other suggestion is to get your husband to tell you the names of the colors he chose - or give you the swatches - and take them down to the paint section of any home improvement store or paint store. Having them right in front of you will help you pick complimentary colors.

Good luck! Enjoy your house!

The main rooms in your house should be a color that is colorful yet uplifting but doesn't make people feel uneasy. The bedrooms should be calm warm colors that are peaceful, bright colors will keep you from sleeping. Your bathrooms should be a tranqueal color that you can relax in. But above all pick colors that you like, after all you have to live there.

Is the yellow and red in your kitchen non-paintable? if so...I would choose something neutral for the rest of the house...I personally love the taupes..tans and chocolates...very nice against white woodwork...its a nice contrast...and it wont clash with the kitchen...Good luck

You can follow Brian Wilson's(Beach Boys) example and paint your house purple. His neighbors loved it!.
