Would phone calls be more appropriate? It will just be for wedding party/partners and family.

Either way, but the invitations would be nice. The bridal party already knows they are supposed to show up for the rehersal, and there is usually a dinner after, it's a tradition.. Whichever you chose, just give them the date, the time to be at the rehearsal site, the dress code, and where the dinner will be at, after the rehearsal. An invitation becomes a keepsake to those who collect all the things from the wedding.
I like to see the dress code spelled out plainly. Casual means so many things to so many people. Jeans and t's OK, or dressy casual, or if you decide to call people, tell them what you are wearing.
Here's a way to decide: if your budget is tight, call people. If it isn't, mail an invite.

Plain and simple - YES, send invites, for 1 - your having a wedding rehearsal dinner (which is still very important), and 2 - don't you find it nicer to receive an invite in the male rather than a quick call. Makes you feel special! Oh and Congrats on the upcoming nuptuals!! ;)

A phone call is acceptable. Invites are only needed for the wedding/reception. Besides the people involved know by now that they are supposed to be there. A friendly phone call to remind them should suffice.
