Don't know about downtown LA, but I've been to the Griffith Observatory in Hollywood. It has great view of the entire city, it's about 1200 feet up, it's in the mountains. You must make reservations to take a shuttle there, they just remodeled it a few months back, but it's only like $6-8. They also have a planetarium which was cool if you're into that kind of thing.

It's not the highest building downtown, but the Standard Hotel in downtown has an awesome rooftop bar. Very pretty at night!

Usually not. But one time a year this is a race up the Library Tower (US Bank Building). Racers use only the stairs, but once you get to the top, you will be enjoying the view from the highest building west of the Mississippi River.

bonaventure hotel has one but since 9/11 I don't think any Downtown building will accept vistors. Evene the resturant at the L.A. AIrport that you also see as their icon is closed

Goto Mullholand drive the view of LA from up there is amazing..... it would be better than seeing it from the downtown buildings

altho' i think your best bet for a veiw is either the observatory or mulholland drive.
