Dear sister
yes It's ok to pray just the five prayers in a day and night ... and you'll be good
the use of sunnah is that it replaces any farz you forget to pray , this doesn't mean that you can leave the farz and pray only sunna .
farz gives you excess bonus from god and you should try to do them whenever you can .. If not Just keep o praying the five farz and you're good

Sunnah is not obligatory, if you did it, you'll be rewarded, if you didn't there's no problem.
Faz in prayers:
- Dawn: 2, Dhuhr: 4. Asr: 4, Sunset:3, Night: 4.
- Sunnah is unlimited except in 2 cases:
A- 4 rakaat before and 4 after Zohr.
B- No Sunnah After Asr.
Sunna in prayers substitutes any invalid rakaa you could have done unintentionally during Farz. That's why it's preferrable to do the Sunnah prayers if you can, if you can't it's ok, but you'll prefer to do them once in a while.

ok Sunnah is not obligatory but its what our beloved prophet done so its always good to follow our prophet for more rewards. Im sure these are the right ones but im not 100% sure always confirm it with an expert or read sahih al bukhari. anyway its as follows
2 sunnah before fajr farz and you pray 2 during your farz for fajr salah. according to hadith the sunnah prayer before fajr salah was so important to the prophet that its described as more important than the world to him
2 or 4 before zuhr farz and zuhr farz is 4 rakahs and you can pray another 2 after farz
4 farz for asr salah
2 after maghrib farz and maghrib farz is 3 rakahs
2 after isha farz and isha farz is 4 rakahs you can pray 3 rakah witr salah as well. you would get rewarded for witr inshallah.
anywa if you want i have a very good book in my computer on salath just email me if you want the book and ill send it to you via email. Hope ive provided you with enough information.

Fard prayer is Compulsary, so the one who leaves it gets sin,
There is no sin for leaving the sunnah prayer as it is optional.
There are two sunnah prayers that the prophet never missed out, the sunnah before dawn prayer & the (witr) prayer after the last night prayer, because of their high importance & reward.
But there is also a huge reward for keeping on with the other sunnah prayers, other than covering up any shortage of the fard prayers.

If you read Qur'an, there is no mention of # of rakat, etc. It says to pray morning & evening, and guard the middle prayer, wash hands to the elbows, face, head, & feet, with no mention of the number of times, it says to prostrate, it says to follow the way of Abraham. All the other things come from hadith (sunnah). The Qur'an teaches that God is mailny interested in intent, or what's in the heart. Whether prayer is accepted or not is God's business, depending on the heart. I wouldn't worry so much about what other people think or say about what's "OK" with God regarding prayer....... but to make the most sincere effort to praise, thank, and glorify God and God alone and worry about what HE thinks is "OK".
