I own a landrover discovery 300tdi 1998. It as been explained to me that the new rates apply to vehicles registered after 2001 therefore you and me will pay the same tax as any vehicle over1540cc or thereabouts, the new rates apply to landrovers ect registered after 2001, good news for you and me

No.

The big increase that has made the headlines only applies to cars first registered on or after 23rd March 2006.

Cars first registered before March 2001 are taxed based on engine size, as CO2 emission ratings may not be available.

use off-road, then it won't be liable for a new road tax.
