Because Christians are equally obsessed with the Atheists.. Besides, them Christians think their religion has a grasp of the only real truth and force others into converting.. Their missionaries, posters, pamphlets and TV/radio shows are so prolific to the point of suffocating the world with their faultfindings in and criticisms of other religions.. It is disappointing to observe these in a faith built upon the teachings of a great man.. What's wrong with Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Shintoism, Gnosticism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, Mysticism, Shamanism, Atheism and the rest of the minority religions? Each and every religion has a piece of the truth, respect between these religions would be a step into unlocking the mystery of cosmic truth and spiritual enlightenment..

I would consider myself to be fairly atheistic but the real truth is, as you've pointed out already, nobody has definite answers to these types of things. However...
- Whenever I have tried talking to a Christian I have invariably asked them about their beliefs and why they believe what they do - out of interest and curiosity, because I think a little healthy debate here and there never hurt anybody. Without exception, when I have been talking to a Christian in this way the discussion tends to turn nasty or ends abruptly.
- The Christians I've met (and this is just from my own experience, it could be that I've just met the wrong people) have always taken my own beliefs too personally to heart and started arguing with me. I have never been able to get a Christian to agree to disagree about stuff - they remain adamant that they are right, they know the truth and they can't understand why I can't see that they are right and I am wrong?
- Which is the main thing that annoys me about Christians in general - they seem to be so closed-minded.
- I like to be able to talk with people on an adult level - you say why you believe that or why your opinion happens to be like that and then I do the same and we share idea's and we learn more about each other and it's all good.
- When an atheist says that they think believing in a God or following some religion is the wrong way to go, I don't see why a Christian (or a follower of any other religion) should get so het up and see it as an attack.
- Opinions are like a**holes: We've all got one, and we're all entitled to use them!

I am under the opinion that being an atheist is a faith in and of itself. They have a belief structured around the idea that there is no supreme deities. I believe, when considering people of what faith are obsessive about another, every person can have a different intention, motive or agenda for doing so. Some people feel like they need to save others from not believing in what they believe and view that as doing the other person a favor... Some potential viewpoints could be....Maybe an atheist might not want to see others have less time to succeed in this world by wasting their time on something that they believe does not exist. Maybe another person of an organized faith wants to help the other person's soul and personal life by helping them find the truth. Other people like to debate...they might be curious, not able to back off the topic because they didn't have the last word, or other mental issues... But historically there are certain religious groups that don't get along because of things that happened long ago... Sunni and Shiite Muslims don't get along... They hold a long time grudge... The inquisitions that were sponsored from the Popes of the Roman Catholic church, where Christians draw their roots from, tortured heretics... I have a link that shows some medieval devices. I am sure that both sides could have grudges, but overall, people just are people... Common sense isn't common, and people believe what they want to believe....

I don't go knocking on christians doors.
I don't go to some silly temple and recite mantras that I haven't bothered to understand once a week.
I debate religion with anyone I meet if the conversation comes up.
I will mock people only when they seem intent on pushing ignorance.
I don't give a toss about "Origin of the species", there's so many other texts that support evolution.
Scientology has far more in common with christianity than atheism.
I don't donate money to fight court cases against creationists because I don't live in a country where people like you donate money to trying to make schools into houses of ignorance.

Imagine that you are on a debating team, and have been given the converse of this question. "Why are Christians obsessed with what other people believe?"
Examine this closely. Not just what atheists believe, but what other branches of Christianity believe. The war between Catholics and Protestants (sorry about mispelling it) in the United Kingdom is a case in point. Two groups who honor the exact same divinity and savior, yet who regularly violate that god's commandments in order to murder each other.
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Or, as someone much wiser than myself once said, remove the log from your own eye before complaining about the speck in someone elses' eye.

I've often wondered why athiests seem to be afraid of Christians. They shouldn't care one way or another, because if they are right and we are wrong (which I don't believe), then what harm is there in our accepting Christ as our Savior while we are alive.
Also evolution and Christianity don't have to be at odds with each other. God created through evolution. In Genesis (I don't remember the chapter and verse) God says that man can't understand the scale of His time, that one day to Him is thousands of years to us. This means that when God created the universe in 6 days and rested on the seventh, it wasn't six twenty four hour periods, it was thousands and thousands (or more) years.
Also in the beginning when God created the universe, it starts with "Let there be light" but He doesn't create the sun, moon and stars until later. It sounds an awful lot like another way of explaining the big bang. When the Bible was first written down people didn't have the vast amounts of knowledge they do now, they didn't even know the scale of the continent they were on or of the earth much less the entire universe. God gave them His Word in a manner in which they could understand it.
But all you have to do is look at the beauty of the Grand Canyon, or a field of wild flowers on a bright spring day to know that He created it, that there was no way the beauty, and intricacy that is our planet, was an accident.

I am *thankfully* no longer part of a fundamentalist religion where we spent every waking moment planning who we could "save" next. (that would be all the atheists, and members of other churches that weren't ours) SO I would have to completely disagree with you.
When has an atheist ever given a perfect stranger on the street a card inviting them to come and celebrate the non-existence of God?
To say that the atheists are *always* the ones bringing up religion would have to be nothing short of exaggeration. Maybe it's just the company you keep, ever think of that? Maybe your atheist aquaintances aren't well versed in respecting other people's boundaries and beliefs?
People need to respect other's beliefs. Unless someone asks your opinion about what you believe, keep your mouth shut.

LOL! I just looked you up, and 16 out of the first 20 questions of yours that came up were insults directed at atheists. They weren't even legitimate questions, they were just insults disguised as questions.
And you've NEVER brought up a point they can't counter. You keep making that claim over and over again...and never ONCE have I seen you out-debate an atheist. You pose a "question", and when the atheist answers you, you start calling them stupid and insulting them, and then try to claim you've won the argument. You're an idiot.
You also have a whole bunch of "questions" insulting blacks and Europeans. Get some therapy already.

I think atheists get angry at Christians because we feel sorry for them because they don't have God in their lives. It is irritating to be pitied so I can understand why they get riled and want to attack Christians and Christianity.
The things is, when atheists defend their beliefs they invariably go for arguments such as 'I don't want someone to have control over me', 'I'm in charge of my own life', 'You can't prove there is a God'. The sort of statements that have no logical thought or evidence behind them and that you would expect a 14 year old to come up with.
The theory of evolution is just that - a theory, and people who hold it up as a truth are merely showing their religious faith. It is religious behaviour from people who claim to have no religion, because their pride closes their minds to the obvious.
Yes, I do pity them, but as the old adage has it: 'There are none so blind as those who will not see'.

This is yet another one of those ignorant religion questions because this is not a one way street. Ironic that the question is being asked by a Christian.
Your personal experience is hardly enough to prove the so-called "fact" that atheists are obsessed with christians. In other words, your personal experience does not describe the norm for the rest of the world.
From MY personal experience i've seen both sides of the argument. I've seen atheists going around trying to convince christians they're wrong, but what i have seen MORE of is christians trying to push their beliefs on everyone else. NOT JUST atheists. I believe the atheists you are referring to are not trying to convert people, but they are trying to FREE people from the hypocrisy, ignorance & intolerance that religions bring & make them see a better life. It's no secret that religions cause wars & segregation between peoples.
In my personal experience as a former catholic I have seen A LOT of people try to push their christianity on everyone else. Every christian supporter i've seen on Yahoo! Answers comes on here to preach about god & tell everyone else they're wrong for not believing in the power of christ.
So don't come here spouting this b.s. about atheists trying to "convert" people because christians are the leaders of trying to convert the non-believers!
The way i see it is the atheist/agnostic way is better. Imagine a world without religion where everyone respects each other & there are no barriers to divide the human race.... That should be what we aim for! But instead you cling on to this ancient belief structure built on myth, fantasy & blind faith to give people hope for the afterlife. It is simply a way for you all to wipe your moral slates clean before dying to secure your spot in heaven... an idealistic place where you get everything you desire. What happened to just being a good person & not worrying about reaping any benefits? I find it hard to believe that a good person who donates to charity & helps their fellow man is damned to hell simply because they do not follow the "savior" that you follow.... While a convicted murderer can go to heaven simply by confessing his sins & saying a few prayers... EVEN THOUGH the first commandment is THOU SHALT NOT KILL!
It's all hypocritical and the sooner you understand that the sooner we can start breaking down the walls that religion put up in the way.

Because there is a movement trying to convince people that religion is bad. They are trying to make people believe that every bad thing that ever happened is the fault of religion and that religion is nothing more than brainwashing or a refuge for the ignorant. If they can remove Christianity they will have the groundwork for control. Contrary to what the propaganda says, Christianity tells their followers they are accountable for their own actions and are responsible for helping their community. That gets in the way of the "big brother" control they would like to establish.
