My cat would do the same thing and I think she wanted the water moving in order to drink it. You could either get one of the fountain type water bowls from a pet store or do like I did and get a heavier bowl that he cannot move.

Cats are funny little thing.!
They love anything that move, must be part of the wild animal instinct in them.
Unfortunately the water in the bowl is still.
In the wild their ancestors drink from running water or moving river.
Very possibly that's the reason they need to move the water before drinking.
No matter the bowl is heavier or bigger or deeper, they will still put their paws in and still spill the water.
Sorry mate! !
Maybe a little work of wiping up the water.
A fountain water for their drinking maybe a good idea.
Good Luck !!!

Cats have very poor depth perception.
She's pawing at the dish to see if it has water in it and how deep the water is.

My cat would do tha all the time. I would hide and stare at him to see why he would do it. He would play with it. Or he would try to splash water into his food. I also notice he dint like the bowl. I had to get him a few new ones intill he stop. I got him one in ikea for .25 cents he loves it. Just change the bowl.

She's probably playing in it.
When my cat drinks from her dish, somehow she ends up getting a lot of it on the floor. She doesn't even have a colar on now, so I'm not sure how she does it, EVERY day, ha ha.

My girls like to play in the water, especialy fresh water. They also get in the shower or bath after we get out to play in that water. It is just part of his Character, Personality, try putting a matt under the water bowl so you don't ruin your floor. GL with kitty!
