I believe we did what needed to be done, but also believe the mission is completed and it time for the Iraq people to fight their own war. Not sure we can just pull out but do believe it is time to start bringing out troops home.
There should be no right or wrong answers if you have a reason.

We haven't even begun to fight the real enemy. Iran! Mark my words, until Iran is neutered, this war will not be over and American troops will not be coming home.

Unlike Vietnam, when we vacated a country and left that country and it's people to their own devices, this war is different. Iraq has become a magnet to all those who want to fight America. Iran, Syria, al Quaeda, Islamic jihad of every stripe and persuasion, they all want their turn at killing Americans. This is all inspired by Iran and al Quaeda, the rest are just followers.

The democrats would be willing to abandon the middle east, without a reasonable resolve to this problem. The problem would only increase if the US were to leave.

The gulf states and Israel would agree with this assessment, and these are the country's we rely on for the world balance, in terms of energy and as allies. The country's that are causing the most grief in the middle east, contribute very little to peace or cooperation with the western world, or to peace and tranquility with their own neighbors.

Even the hard core hold-outs, Russia and China are looking at Iran as more of an obstacle than ally ! This bodes well for western Europe and the US in it's pursuit to stop Iran from gaining Nuclear capabilities. Truly, Iran is a piranha in the world community, and it's people are being drawn into this mess by a misguided ayatollah and a fanatical president, Ahmadinajad.

The smartest thing the Iranian people could do at this point, is take matters into their own hands, much like the people of Italy during WWII, when they came up with the final solution against Mussolini !

LT
We've simply GOT to find a way to leave this thing WITHOUT leaving it in utter genocide !! The hard--cold facts though---point to there being not much choice---unless yet again --we are in a place that we will continue to "occupy" as we have so many others before it !!
We are still in Germany
We are still in South Korea
We are still in Japan
We are still in Bosnia
We are still in Afghanistan
We are still in Kuwait
We are still in the Azores
Hell, we're still in England, Italy, and Greece !!!
I mean--- is it any wonder that our detactors see us as the world's "occupation force" in spades !!! Especially when the Wolfowitz doctrine has been adopted by the Republican elite as the Bible of reasonings why we should see our place in the world as being within our rights to ---Invade-- Take down-- and Occupy----any country we PRECEIVE as a threat !!

Hard fact is --- there is no national identity left for Iraq -- and there is never going to be this "mystical" centralized independent Iraqi government to take control OF the place without a "puppetmaster" shoring them up with brute force on the street----and if we leave Iraq today--- that replacement brute force is, without a doubt , going to be Iran !!!

So, Junior has created his legacy here
sad point is --- it is OUR legacy also---- we've successfully turned a bad situation into an outright bloody nightmare !!! And, he was told by the people who know this place that THAT would be the case----But HE is the DICTATOR (decider) and he WANTED to do this--- created the need to do this---and did it anyway !!!
And, the absolute saddest of all is--- this "fight" that we leave the Iraqi's to do--- is not for their country----it is for their very lives !! The country is gone--- period--- gone !!
So, now, in order to "save face" and try to keep their "poster child" Iraq from becoming an Iranian satellite nation-- the administration is laying plans to "remove Iran" from the mix !!!
And, one can just sit back and guess --- what marvels of human achievement THIS is going to bring !!

And, am I totally wrong here when I am believing that the whole idea of HAVING a military force in the first place was to have DEFENCE of our nation--- not to be the "Occupiers" of over half of the world or to be the world's central Police Dept !!! It is no wonder to me that we've had to incorporate a Homeland Security Dept within the country---we have every available man (and woman) stationed everywhere else that there is !!!!!

I think we should stay, at least till Baghdad, the surrounding areas, the major cities and the countries financial and natural resources are secure. Then they could mop up after us.

Imagine if the American civil war (if you want to call whats happening in Iraq a civil war) was fought in the late 1770's instead of in the early 1860's. I assure you it would have had catastrophic affects on our countries formation. That's whats about to happen in Iraq. A new government can't form without help, amidst a war, civil or otherwise.

First, let me start out, by saying that I don't think that what was done, needed to be done. The 9/11 attacks were conducted primarily by people (animals) from Egypt and Saudi Arabia, our allies, so, should we have attacked them? We knew Osama was in Afghanistan, so did we send all of our troops there? no... Our "leader" said that the axis of evil was North Korea, and Iran. Did we send troop there? no. We invaded Iraq, without Hard evidence of anything.
Yes, we are there now. We should be pulling out and letting the Iraq people to help themselves. The northern area of Iraq seems to be doing just fine. Let the Iraq's decide if the country should be separated into 3 or 4 distinct provinces. We should first pull our troops out of Baghdad, and into the dessert area, away from any populated location. That way, we could better secure those areas. Have a free fire zone with a 20 mile circle around the bases. Only one way in and one way out. checkpoints every mile or so, to weed out the bad guys. Blow them away at a safe distance from our troops. Use our aircraft to support the Iraq Army and police. Slowly pull out until only a skeleton force is left, then get them out as well.

I think that it is time for the US to establish both a time table for US troop reductions (and the quicker, the better) and a list of ground rules for Iraq engagements. We should make it absolutely clear to all concerned that any armed conflict with the intent of removing the legally elected government would result in massive US air strikes against the units, headquarters, infrastructure and leaders of the 'insurrection'. We should agree to support the legal government with supplies and power as required. And then we should do just that with only marginal attention paid to collateral damage (which is imminent anyhow). It is time for Iraq to fight their own internal battles but much of the insurgency is fomented and supported from outside that country.

First permit me ingredient out that we nevertheless have troops in Bosnia and Kosovo. we'd desire to call for that bill Clinton (the troops will in basic terms be there for 2 years) pull them out. As to the abode Democrats, they might probable bypass this bill in the event that they attempt relatively not straightforward (they have a touch large majority interior the abode). as quickly because it gets to the Senate it gets shot down, and if via some hazard it made it to the President it would be vetoed. What the Democrats are doing is attempting to lose the conflict while not having the blame for it.
