Absence from the body means presence with the Lord

Jesus said to the thief on the cross "Today you will be with me in paradise"

When Lazarus died....the book of Luke tells us that he was carried away to Abraham's bosom by angels

So I believe according to scripture that it is instantaneous.....to go to heaven. And then at the resurrection (the Day of the Lord)...we will get our new bodies....praise God!

Hi, once your body takes its last breath your soul leaves the body and goes to spirit world (Heaven). I don't think you meet Jesus but you will meet your loved ones who have already passed over into the spirit world. Your soul is met by your loved ones to guide you over. Everyone goes to spiritworld, or Heaven, those who have done bad deeds (such as murder) go to a different place within the spirit world where they have to come to terms with what they did when in their earthly life and have to genuinely be sorry before their soul can move up. (I am a spiritualist medium so I know this from the communication I have with the spirits who have already passed over)

I was saved 24 years ago when I was 17, so it goes without saying that I've enjoyed many messages (sermons) on this subject. I've always thought that once you die, your soul goes to Heaven there and then. I don't know how long the process is supposed to take but Jesus said to one of the criminals on the cross "I tell you, this day, you will be with me in Paradise."

There is no hint of waiting period in the grave or .... purgatory, if you like. The part about meeting up in the sky comes from what we call the Rapture .... the Second Coming. It's said that the dead in Christ will rise and those saints (the word simply means 'believer'. I'm a saint) still alive will vanish and be transformed ... to bring the terminology up to date ... into beings of pure energy - that's what I believe the soul is.

May I ask, please; that if you disagree with my belief - and that's what it is, none of us will know for sure until we experience death for ourselves - don't slag me off. I am not stupid (I have an IQ of over 130 and am a bit of an armchair scientist), not do I believe blindly. My parents vaguely upheld Christian traditions and sent us to Sunday School but more or less felt the same as most of you seem to so they didn't brainwash me into believing as I do. I decided for myself when I was 17 and haven't felt my beliefs so wrong and foolish that I need to recant that decision.

I will never insult you for your beliefs, or lack of them and as this was a question aimed at those with a belief, I think it's a bit 'off' to aim both barrels at us when we do answer it with as much conviction as we can muster.

1. Upon death, the soul or spirit of the believer goes immediately to be with God.

2. The Bible also says the believer goes to be with Christ in the presence of the Lord.

3. Believers are alive and conscious in this state.

4. Though it is not their final reward, it is a place of rest, waiting, activity, and holiness.

5. Paul, who was caught up in the presence of the Lord, says that he heard inexpressible things that a person is not allowed to communicate.

6. Although believers have a natural curiosity about the intermediate state, Scripture focuses on the time when Christ returns. At that time He will raise and judge the dead, and then set up His everlasting kingdom.

Depending on your doings while here on Earth will determine where the spirit / soul goes.

It came from God as a gift, and will return to above if we do the good we can, and endure our imperfections and afflictions without causing harm to others.

The Lord is always there, shining us within with His Light...Love

Peace

What is a soul? What does it do? What's the connection between the soul and the body? My consciousness appears to be in my brain, so what has the soul got to do with it?

There is no such thing as a soul. There is no such thing as life after death. When you're dead, that's it. This is a serious answer.

When one dies he/she is immediately brought before the Throne of God and judged according to the Law, if they are guilty they will be cast into hell, if innocent they will enter into heaven, the only way to be innocent before God is if someone buys the penalty, that some one is Jesus Christ, so if you accept Him you will go to heaven and be with God, in spirit until the rapture and then your old body will be made new, glorified, and you will return to it, and you will also return to the new earth. "for behold the old is passed away and He has made all things new."

How can you expect a serious answer when you ask a daft question. How can anyone know for sure what happens when you die - there is certainly no one who knows whether you go straight to heaven or whether heaven exists.

If you are Born again ( John 3:3 ) your soul immediately goes to heaven , your body is in the grave till judgment day , then you will receive a brand new body ( sinless ) people who don't believe are in trouble , they will be judged and sentenced forever in eternal damnation.

When I was working as a nurse we always opened a window following a death as it was nursing culture to let the soul leave the room. I did it throughout my nursing career as I thought it was a nice thought.

"It is appointed unto man to die once and then the judgment."Hebrews 9:27. I think that's pretty clear that you find yourself in the presence of God immediately. We will not meet Jesus in the air unless we are alive and present for his return. Keep looking east.
