God I guess. But actually the bigger question now in my mind is where did THEY get the names for Cain, Abel and Seth? Presumably they just had to completely make the names up from scratch!

God gave Adam his name, & Adam named Eve, Because in Gen.2:22-25 We see Adam calling his helpmate WOMAN. But you also have to see that while Eve was still in Adam, That everything was already named, And Eve did NOT have to ask Adam what kind of beast is that out there in the field, She already Knew, Why, because She is a part of Adam

Adam's name has something to do with the dust/clay he was formed from.

Eve's name was prononced "Hevah" (life) in Persia, and even Genesis calls her the mother of life. I think she was a goddess once, and the Genesis story was told to discourage people from worshipping her.

The name of god is Yod-hevah (Jehovah), so Eve's name was part of god's name.

The first time you see the name "Adam" is in Genesis 2:19 - And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

The name "Adam" means - Biblical name of the first man, from Heb. adam "man," lit. "(the one formed from the) ground" (Heb. adamah "ground"); cf. L. homo "man," humanus "human," humus "earth, ground, soil."

It's Hebrew for Man, basically. So you could say the Hebrews did it!
