What should I do? She calls me at home, non stop. I wouldn't mind except for the fact that she insist on gossiping about the job (which by the way, I'm still at). I don't want to be rude because I know it's hard for her but I also don't want to jeopardize my position at work.

Stop answering. This behavior is probably what got her "let go" in the first place. Get caller ID and dont pick up her calls anymore. Tell her you were busy.

She isnt going to move on if you keep feeling sorry for her and accidentally or unintentionally keep feeding her need to still be in the loop.

Yes it is difficult time for her and she has not let go of her former office "life". She will in time.

However, you will not be rude by asserting your need to be left alone.

Find a way to tell her not to call you any longer, it is difficult, but when you do, she will stop and you will feel a sense of relief. For example: "(her name) please don't call me at home as I don't want to talk about the people at my office, I know times are tough, good luck and good-bye." Something along those lines.

Don't put her need to cling on to what is effectively over for her ahead of your need to continue working at a job you want and peace in your home.

She is probably calling others as well, keep out of the gossip loop as no good will come of it.

It's time for you to be "rude" and get yourself out of this situation.
Let her know you're sorry she lost her job and you wish her the best of luck but you don't have the time to spend on the phone talking with her about it so much.

you should call your phone company and have her number blocked. I wouldn't want her calling me either. The other thing is, you can tell her on the phone that you don't want to hear it anymore and hope she doesn't retaliate.. she seems a little nuts. That's why I'd get the number blocked.
