I want to make my son's nursery super unique and put some paintings on the wall (of teddy bears and such)... I was just wondering what kind of paint and paint brushes to use, and any other advice that you think would be helpful

You can use acrylics from an art store or just use latex house paint (like you would use on your walls) especially if you can get those sample pots. Make sure you mix the paint with glaze so you can paint in thin layers and it stays wet longer so that if you make a mistake you have the time to wipe it off.

You want to keep the painting "thin" as well so that when he's older and you want to cover it up you won't have a ton of ridges to sand down.

A mural is much nicer if done in soft tones so keep the colours pastel at first. You can strengthen the colours later as you get more comfortable with what you are doing. Buy good art brushes for acrylic paints from the art store - you won't regret the cost.

Acrylic Paints, or regular wall paint. Gloss medium, or matte medium to thin out the acrylics, and or glaze to thin out the wall paint. The brushes should be acrylic quality (firm) and can be found at any art supply store as can the gloss and matte medium. The brushes will say whether they are for acrylics or watercolors. If you are going to use wall paint, i suggest getting samples from a place like Behr or Sherwin Williams. They have really quality paints and so many unique colors. You can also practice on a small piece of scrap canvas (also at art stores) if your wall is textured, so you can know how much paint you need to have on the brush for full coverage (no see thru spots). i usually make a study (a smaller version of what I'm putting on the wall) to make sure i stay proportioned when i get on the wall. Hope this helps!

acrylic paints are fine. af you afraid of putting the brush to the wall at first, i would recomend stencils. you can get almost any thing you need and the prices are really good .at www.sunshinecrafts.com. If you have some kind of projecter or over head that could help you do more complicated teddys. My son inlaw used one to do a wolverine on my grand sons wall. It looks great.

They sell decals and stickers of this sort; a lot easier and quicker to install.
But if you want to paint, visit a hobby shop that sells brushes and paints. (Remember, is using oils, the paint will take about three months to dry to the touch.)
