Check with your vet, but organic seems to be the way to go. It has no wheat gluten or other fillers in it. Those are bad for every one. It's more expensive but it may be worth it. You can find it at your local pet store.

I feed my cats a 95% meat, grain free wet food. It's called Natures Variety. They also make grain free dry food, treats and raw food, and all the ingredients are organic. It really isn't that much more expensive, and I think that if you really care about your pet you should do the research on their nutritional needs. It's worth every penny, because what you gain a happy and healthy pet.
What caused the recall was wheat gluten. It's a cheap filler that they use to keep the manufacturing costs of their cheap foods down. Same with all the other crap they put in the food like brewers yeast and by-products.

I feed my cat Felidae brand foods. It does not contain wheat gluten or corn products. Look on the labels when purchasing foods. Cats receive no nutritional benefit from corn, and wheat gluten is questionable. Supposedly it serves as a protein source, but I would imagine a meat source for protein would be MUCH better for a cat considering they are carnivores. There are many good foods out there, unfortunately they aren't found in grocery stores. If you have a local feed and seed type store, try there. They usually carry the highest quality foods (Innova, Felidae, Natural Balance, etc).

The cat food that had the ingrediant in it that caused the problem has been pulled from the shelves & it was "wet" food.
Feed your cats a good quality kibble and keep water handy for them at all times and they will have healthy happy lives. Nutro Natural Choice, Eagle Pack, Pro Plan or any "holistic" formulas are just a few brands. Just pick something above what would be considered "grocery store brands"..... e.g. Meow Mix, Iams ...

Try this. I have been fostering pups for a while and I feed them the canine version. I know they do cat version. It is all natural stuff, excellent for teeth and digestion. And usually works out much cheaper than the tinned stuff. When changing pet diets, introduce them gradually to the new food. Good luck.

I have cats also, so I researched it very thoroughly. for cats it is the wet cat food. If you have any of this in our cabinets, make sure you throw it away immediately! Start serving them dry cat food until this passes, or they figure out exactly what it is.
You might want to take the time to go to the FDA website to have a better look.

See your veterinarian for he has special foods for each pet that a lot of normal stores do not carry.Or just go to the nearest animal clinic and you can get the right food there as well by talking to their staff.

I couldn't say for certain what is definately safe but
you can find lists of the recalled brands here:
http://www.menufoods.com/recall/index.html
Purina issued its own recall on "Mighty Dog" foil packets (manufactured by menu foods) as well......but that doesn't really effect your situation, since of course its dog food.
