I am female, 5'4", 106 pounds with 16% body fat. I want to tone and put on a little muscle. Will I have to gain weight in order to put on muscle, or should I just be able to hit the weights and be able to see a difference? I hate the idea of having to increase my caloric intake; I'm afraid it will go on as fat and all my working out will be in vain.

Nah, you don't need to increase calories.

I assume you're looking for more definition and tone, and not increasing muscle mass like a lot of guys want to do.

If that's the case, then you don't really need to alter your diet. 5'4" and 106lbs is pretty trim to begin with.

I'd suggest weight training, but nothing real heavy. You want to keep it light and do a lot of reps per set.

And you will see a difference. Sometimes as soon as 2 weeks, but usually around a month other people will start noticing as well.

It's always a good idea to eat healthy, no matter what your goal is. Cut down on some of the fat and replace it with protein.

If you weight train you will put on muscle weight and tone your body. If you increase your caloric intake ... increase your proteins as they go to muscle not fat.

Talk to a personal trainer to find a routine that would be best for you so that you don't start looking like a muscle builder instead of a well-toned muscular woman.

You sound like you are doing the whole thing proper, however I'm most likely no longer an knowledgeable. I do realize that muscle weighs greater than fats, so possibly you are wasting weight and gaining plenty of muscle. Trying judging your development on the way you seem. Do you seem thinner/extra toned? If you seem like you are gaining fats, then there is as a rule a situation. You will as a rule lose extra weight the longer you hold this up. Good good fortune!

well one thing you need to know is not to go on a crash diet just eat the right foods yeah and it also depends on how old you are. There's a certain body percentage you are suppose to have try asking your P.E teacher she or may know.
