Yes because inadvertantly we would end up killing our own food sources since they rely on bugs (look at the food chain).

A very imprecise question. Sorry but if you are refering to micro-oranisms the answer is that we may well be in deep poo-poo; literally. Without decomposer organisms most ecological processes may fail. Disease oragisms only? Different question!! Sucking insects only? Again very different. The World could lose most higher species and still function quite well, it may have happened before. Though most of us would rather that didn't happen. the world is a poorer place for the extinction of any species even smallpox.
But life would go on even if we had only our farm animals and plants and of course the micro-organisms that inhabit the soil and Oceans.

I was taught in high school and college that every living thing has a purpose in keeping a balanced eco system. Many insects actually contribute in getting rid of things that are necessary to help keep the planet healthy. Spiders and ants are responsible for catching and eating insects that are harmful to others and etc. Also, bees are responsible for having a healthy harvest of fruits and flowers with their natural pollenating. In a nutshell, life for humans would be nearly impossible, if all insects vanish from Earth.
