Cannabis is what is considered a theshold drug; but it is also considered to be less harmful to you in the long run than even cigarette smoking. Legalized Cannabis is prone to abuse in a society that does not have any experience in dealing with drugs of any sort besides the relatively tame alcohol and caffiene (not to mention nicotine).

+ Less harmful to the human body than cigarette smoke
+ THC is not even remotely close to the addictive level of nicotine
+ Some societies can operate perfectly well with legalized Cannabis
+ Is a viable form of recreation in a social enviroment

- "Threshold Drug" - commonly can lead people into harder drugs like Heroin and Cocaine because the underlying issues remain unsolved
- Like any drug is prone to abuse
- Extremely dangerous when in combination with any technical machinery
- Unlike alcohol it is potent enough to get pleasurable (and thus impair normal activity) effects after very little consumption

In the US I believe legalized Cannabs would only serve to make a growing drug problem potentially worse as there could be a general lack of education between "that" drug and "this" drug. Our society is just not ready to handle legalized drug use.

All right, you've heard from the high contingent. Now hear from the never-used-it-and-never-will side of the world: I, too, believe marijuana should be legalized. For heavens sake, we control codeine and morphine pretty well; we can control cannabis for medicinal purposes. It has proven medicinal effects for painful debilitating disease and doctors ought to be able to prescribe it for their patients. Now, recreational use is a whole different thing and I'm not altogether certain if that ought to be legal, but taxing it like we tax tobacco could pump billions into the economy.

Yes I think it should be made legal. Drink and smoking have worse consequences than cannabis. Take a look at Holland they don't have half the trouble this country has with binge drinking, neds and gang cultures. So yes I say legalise Cannabis.

i think its more to do with the government NOT making money off it while its being sold illegally, thus why it is illegal because the government has no way of working out how they gonna tax this money and monitor properly who is growing and selling

legalise it and the government would then be producing it which would put all the untaxable and non declared profits made by growers and sellers basically non existant

then how these people gonna make a living

What kind of question is that. Of course Cannabis shud be made legal. Superb stuff, just watch out for the shait stuff, that can be lethal. Thing is tho, if cannabis was made legal people would grow it themselves and it would be pure.

Of course it should be legal, when me and my partner smoke on the weekend, we can hear the drunks screaming down the road coming out of the pubs hurling abuse and fighting while we relax with a bar of chocolate and a film and we are the ones that are using the illegal substance, just doesnt sound right?!!!

Yes. However having read other answers, some seem to be misinformed, it IS highly harmful as 1 j is the equivalent of 27 cigarettes, check it out if you don't believe me. It does the lungs more damage. To legalize it, our nation could probably finance the payback of our national debt. There will always be abusers and they will reap their own reward (?)

For medical reasons.. YES! I see what it does to my brother who suffers from a very serious illness and it really helps him. So YES I am all for legalizing it medically.
