Religion exist to help define a persons relationship with God. And from that his relationship with others and the moral/ethical laws which guide his life.
It is needed if one is to have a relationship with God.

Humans know they are going to die and they are afraid of death thats why every type of religion that has been dreamed up has this life after death thing.Thats why all these different religions exist.
