I have OCD, and I have let it go untreated for awhile now, and one of my obsessions is to look back at ppl to see if they're lookingat me. I guess this is more obvious than I would like it to be, b/c in class yesterday (I go to a university) I did this to these annoying guys in my class who talk a lot, and one of them pointed at me when I glanced at him, and it was when the instructor was talking about a character in a book who "snapped" and that it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, and I happen to have an OCD-related paranoia about everything inmy life being a self-fulfilling prophecy, and when the instructor said this, and I happened to glance back at this guy, he pointed at me! And I am wondering if he knows about me feeling this way about myself, and how?! Am I that obvious? But how can it be? Or did he do this b/c I kept looking back at him and it just happened to be when she was talking about this? I have enough problems and am in a relationship that is not going where I want it.

Honey, it's because THEY have a social illness. They don't know how to treat people, and they've never heard of the Golden Rule.

You're not the problem. THEY are!

Hi Stargazer, I am so sorry about your diagnosis. First of all I will just say that ppl are afraid of things that they dont understand and therefore it is easier to make fun of it. They could not even imagine themselves in your predicament because it is too scary. That being said, the first sentence you stated is that yo have let it go untreated for a while, if it is this distressing to you, you should consider going to a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Some SSRI's have been shown to be succesfull with many OCD symptoms with minimal side-effects and CBT and some dynamic therapises have also shown to be helpful. One thing to keep in mind is that you are aware of yuor self-fulfilling paranoias so you wull find them even if they are not really there (the prophecies). Good luck and I hope things get better for you soon (in the relationship too).

Hey sweetie, try not to obsess about some pea brained dim wit in your class who is probably gonna fail anyhow ........ I'm not trying to make light of your question though. I know exactly where you're coming from, I have bipolar/schizophrenia and find myself being probably a bit too panicky about stuff like this at times too. Wot you have to remember is that people like you and I with mental illnesses are not mentally ill per se. In my learned opinion, hehehe, no seriously, I think that we are the chosen few. Vastly superior intellectuals who are, unfortunately surrounded by fools and jus have to make the best of it. Treat these damn fools with the disdain they deserve !! If these guys come up and say anything to you next time just totally ignore any question they have asked and ask very sweetly and demurely, "Uuumm, did you actually get dressed like that on purpose this morning??!!" Then say nothing and look straight at them for about 20 seconds and just turn and walk off. Don't take cr.a.p from people jus give em sass girl ................ :0)

PEACE & LIGHT

I honestly believe that he did that at the same time when she said what she said,Someone with a shallow mind can not be physic or anything of that nature,he could never even begin to understand where you are coming from, besides this fellow can't be that brightest if he's still making fun of people,College doesn't represent intelligence, well not in this case,as you can plainly see. People choose to make fun of people with disorders/mental illness because it's easier then laughing at them self,I've said this before and I'll say it again,"he who laughs now, cries later. Sorry about your relationship and hope that you find what it is you are looking for.

You are obviously obsessing about this and your train of thought is completely irrational - both symptoms of your disorder. Of course he doesn't know. He pointed at you because you kept looking at him. He is not a mind reader.

You need to get help for your disorder before it becomes so deeply ingrained that you will not completely recover. I have had OCD. I was treated by a psychiatrist for that specific problem for a over a year. I am 90% better, but I still have to work at it. I am one of the lucky ones. You need to get into a behavioural therapy treatment program as quickly as possible. Make no mistake, you have a serious and debilitating mental illness, which needs serious treatment.

My heart goes out to you. The OCD is just like any disease like diabetes or asthma. Only thing is that is does not manifest in any kind of physical symptoms which make many people unable to understand and be sympathetic. Only thing i would say is that; just relax, continue to take your medication ( if you are under medication) and just say to yourself that it was just a coincidence that the two events happen in that particular moment. No one is actually singling you out.

ignorance ; in this world you can only be accountable for yourself; you can't live up or down to others standards; at the end of the day, no one person is above anyone else ; that is why the saying what goes around comes around is true; look to yourself and being a better person; don't look behind you b/c everyone has to learn in their own time not in yours

It's a sign in them of boundless cruelty. Or perhaps they have an illness themselves and don't know it.

Edit: Keep thinking to yourself that you are a special person no matter what stupid thing someone else does.

People mock that which they do not understand or fear. It is his own ignorance that is doing this.
