of course there is a risk of aspiration & choking but this is unlikely unless a person is heavily intoxicated & doesn't have a reflex that stops vomit from entering the lungs. Most humans who are healthy have an inbuilt reflex that works well unless affected by drugs or alcohol or a serious injury that causes unconciousness. It shouldn't be cause for too much concern. The reflex is called the gag reflex.

He, as well as anyone can definitely choke on vomit. You first have to find out why he got sick. He might have eaten something foul, eaten too much, have the flu.... If he is still sick you should take him to the doctor and explain. If he doesn't show anymore symptoms of being sick, just monitor what he eats, and check on him tonight. I know it might be hard for you to wake up in the middle of the night, but I bet you wont mind if it means that you son will be safer. As for why he didn't wake up, you never know. He might have unconsciously awaken just to vomit. If he was sick, he might have just felt too weak to get up. Again, it helps to know why he was sick. Yes, I have waken up in the middle of the night to check on my son and found that he had vomited all over the bed. In our situation, he got up to get his milk cup from the fridge and I'm guessing it got too warm sleeping with him at night. I woke him up to get him cleaned up, and he was sick for a while. After he got all the milk out of his system he was better. But good luck, and take care.

This happens with most kids. I wouldn't be worried because it is a natural reaction to turn to the side and clear the airways, even tiny babies have this reflex. People who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol can choke because it dulls this reaction but your little boy should be quite safe. My little sister was a really sicky kid and she used to do it all the time!

I did it when i was a kid. i vomited over the side of the bunk bed an covered my sister in the bottom bunk and went back to sleep. it does happen but until he's done feeling ill i'd use a baby monitor to listen to him in the night then if you hear him being sick you can go thru and help him out.

I am just trying to put myself in his shoes, does he normally get a commotion (lot of people rallying round and talking to him) if he wakes you up in the middle of the night? maybe he was afriad of all the commotion when he really wanted just to sleep or too tierd to take this on and was drowsy enough that he didnt fully wake anyway, was drowsy enough to go back to sleep despite how gross it feels to you
Children do odd things, they can also not want to talk about things and insted of saying I dont wasnt to talk about is -through maybe embarassment, attention he may be getting, fear of attention he may get -e.g, having to take medicine, people asking him questions, stopping him do what he wants to do...etc, or maybe he is afraid he will be in trouble. Did he eat something he wasnt supposed to? e.g when I was 4 I remember eating plants despite knowing I shouldnt, when I was asked about whay I was throwing up in the middle of the night, I told the truth to my mum, realised it wasnt such a good thing to eat plants and that I had caused my problem, so preceeded to lie to all the teachers at school when asked. (Though at the time I didnt 'click' to the fact my mum had spoken to them all!!)
If you are 100% its not that he woke and has chosen to go back to sleep and is just not saying so/covering it up, you are right to be understandably worried, as I would imagine it falls along the lines of sleep walking and nightmares. Try talking to your g.p if you are worried and think it may happen again, as he could choke on his vomit in his sleep. Also try checking on him every so often, it may seem you are worried about your sleep, but it may be you need to take time off work, you would do if your son had a daily illness and was vomiting in the day time, why not the night?

My niece has done this before, he was probaly in a deep sleep, he could have chocked, ut hopefully if that happened it would make him wake up, it is a scary thought though.
