Anyone following a low GI diet? If so, is it effective? What sorta foods should be avoided? Any websites/book suggestions greatfully received! I've been diagnosed with PCOs and have been told it would help to follow a low GI diet, but don't know much about it! Anyone seen great results from following this programme?

Everyone should be following the low GI diet. Yes it is very effective. Eating low Gi foods will keep your blood sugar levels even. This means you will have more energy, and not be constantly hungury, keeping you fuller for longer. It is the best diet for diabetics as well. Foods to eat are apples and certain fruits, oats ( porridge oats, oatcakes ect ) , beans and lentils. Eat wholemeal instead of white. So swap white rice, pasta, bread etc to wholemeal. Foods to avoid are the ones which make your blood sugar levels raise quickly - high Gi. These foods include chocolate, certain cereals, refined carbohydrates like cakes, biscuits and foods with added sugar. A good book to buy so you can follow this is Patrick Holford - Low Gi. Look in book shops. Or you can order.

Hey there,

I also have PCOS, and have read a lot of books on low GI diets.

A good book to read is called "The Low GI Diet" by Jennie Brand-Miller.

But following a low GI Diet is really simple. When you go shopping and you go to buy a food product, if you look under the ingredients and the first thing listed is a grain, then it is good for you.

I have received more energy from eating Low GI foods than any of my friends who are half my size.

This is a good start.
