Not really. I guess you could slip him/her antiabuse for a few days but sooner or later the addict is bound is find out why he/she is becoming violently ill from drinking. It would be very dangerous to even try. If the addiction is severe, "cold turkey" withdrawal could result in death. An alternative is an intervention or, if the addiction is severe enough, a court action for involuntary commitment to a treatment center. The sad truth is that the best cure for alcohol addiction is AA, but AA only works if the addict wants to quit.

Well, if the alcoholic is not in treatment you could try intervention.
You know, secretly get a bunch of the alcoholics family and friends together and then bring the alcoholic to the location they are waiting at and have everyone tell him/her why they are concerned about his/her drinking.

No, but you can get information on helping yourself to understand what is happening to the person you care about. There are groups of many, many people who are there to help you understand.
