Let me tell you from experience you might listen to your family. They will always be there no matter what. Ask them why they don't like him or vice-versa. We didn't like my brother in law at first but it was because of the distance from our home that he lived. Ask and understand where everyone is coming from!

its not the issue of choosing between a family and a love one but knowing your priorities.. say when you are married, naturally your new family comes first, the rest of it becomes second otherwise no sane man & woman should marry each other if you can't stand apart from home. Thou' it does'nt mean you lose touch of the family but rather building your own occupies more time and space now.

i think not they should be complementary to each other because if you choose your love and a problem appears you will be lonely at the end but if you choose your family over your love you will always feel that they took your love from you you will never have the same old good relationship with them as before both situation will end miserably so you should keep both on the same stage

No but sometimes it happens. If you have to choose between two thing you love, the one making you choose isn't very sensitive about your feelings. Try to get them to work out their issues. It's can't be worth either side risking losing you.

No! no one should have to choose it is of corse wrong
your family should love you and if they love you that much they will try to get along with the one you love for you and no one should make you chose

Well, that what I am afraid of right now. I am a christian and my girl friend is a muslim. We have been together for more than 7 years. I have already told my family but they are very dissapointed. So I guess they will understand if you are determined and firm in your decision.
