I was told that freshly plugged tomatoes are best kept at room temperature. Is this true?

Yes, refrigeration alters the chemical constituents that add to a tomato's flavor. If the tomatoes are very ripe when you buy them, use them soon. If not, let them hang out a few days to ripen.

Absolutely. Anyone who tells you otherwise isn't a fan of tomatoes. The only time you would refrigerate a tomato is after you cut it and you wanted to save it, though, truth be told, I simply wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it on the counter. And the only time I would do that is when tomatoes are in season, at the end of summer. End of summer tomatoes don't last around here ;o)

If you keep it at a room temperature, make sure it's in a dark cool corner in your kitchen where the sun wouldn't get the tomatoes rotten.

Don't ever refrigerate fresh tomatoes! Just keep them in a cool dry place. If your fresh tomatoes are green or unripened, put them in brown paper bags and store them in a dry dark place for three to four days.

Its best to use ASAP and not to refrigerate.
If any leftover tomatoes, u can:
1. puree it in the blender and preserve it in the freezer to be used later.
2:Steam cook, remove skin and pulverize and freeze, bottled.
3:make salsa to preserve.
4:make tomato sauce or chutni.

I put mine on the window sills to further ripen them but they also go bad faster too. In my home thye don't last long anyway. I eat them too quickly. Refrigeration changes the taste and I personally don't like them that way.

It is true. I put mine on paper towels on the counter out of direct light.
