I base my ethical system on the culture I live in. I like to think I hold a flexible "When in Rome" point of view. Obviously, there will be some aspects of this culture with which I do not agree, and I speak my case as need be. Thankfully, I live in a 'liberal' (not in a political sense) country, where the right to hold an opinion is upheld. I have spent time in countries, in cultures where such a view was not held so dearly, and I have 'adapted' my 'ethics' to suit. Sometimes it is better to keep one's mouth shut. It causes less offence, and those people were gracious enough to be my hosts. I am not saying I ever abandoned my ethics, my values, I took discretion to be the better part of valour.

My ethical system is based on reason. You can find useful and working ethical standards with reason alone. Look up ethics / moral philosophy for details.

There's not a system, even. Its more of a gut instinct. Compassion is a major factor. Sometimes I wish I could follow some lofty ideals but I guess people are different that way. Maybe I'll grow into it.
