Today, Immigrants ,Asylum seekers, Economic migrants are all being demonised in our society, some would rather they starve to death than sweep the streets, some would rather they die of sickness because they dont have the means for health Insurance, In the uk, there are plans to refuse illegal immigrants access to public services.

Trade between developing world is unfair , hence millions are starving in there own country.

Have we really learnt anything from the abolition of slavery?

I dont think so.

I predict that 200 years down the line , our childrens childrens children , would be repeating the very same thing we are saying now.....it wasnt me or it want us.

Still some would say it was legal then and so they cant be sorry and besides the victims are all dead

And ofcourse others would be so dismayed that this generations allowed such to happpen.

Why should people be allowed in to the UK just to sponge off the state? They have given no contributions to the running of this country! Have a go at another country besides the UK , it seems to me(from some of your previous Q's) you dislike this country. I hear Afghanistan and Iraq has nice weather this time of year.....

I have just come to live in Switzerland.
There is no NHS. We are being forced to pay expensive health insurance.
I can't get a job (I'm white), because all the jobs are offered to Swiss people first, and only offered to foreigners if there are no Swiss people with the correct experience.
Apartments are offered to locals first.

The UK is one of the most generous countries to foreigners that there is. What other country has been giving free health treatment to ILLEGAL immigrants.......ummmm ...None that I can think of.

Everyone in the UK that I know says that slavery is wrong. I think we can safely say that the UK did learn a lesson 200 years ago. I certainly don't hear of anyone who wants it brought back.

Stop being so negative about britain and look at how far we have come compared with a lot of other countries. We should be proud that we look after the less fortunate (even those who are too lazy to work) so well. Whether they are black, white, mixed race or asian!

Our economy does not have unlimited funds and our small island becomes more and more overpopulated. The number of different cultures within our society is growing demanding a variety of different expenditure that we have never had to cater for before (such as translators in schools, health, police, and council organisations). As all this takes place the butter that has been supplied by generations of our forefathers gets spread thinner and thinner. And do you honestly think allowing skilled immigrants into this country helps the countries they are leaving. It does no service to our newly qualified generations and leaves a gaping hole in their country of origins society. Great that if you want a plumber in london now you can get a cheap polish one, but what about those in Poland with a leaky toilet, and the same can be said for doctors, dentists etc...

To get back to the question if we have learnt anything from the slavery its that displacing people from their native lands is a recipe for future trouble. IMHO

At least you have the decency to post the key word in your question, illegal. No illegal immigrant to any country has the right to expect anything from their "host" country except to be deported in a timely fashion. It is by the way a criminal offence to enter the US illegally with a jail term of up to a year and fines and penalties as well. How would you feel if we started actually prosecuting illegals and making them serve jail time for their crimes before we deported them, the point is that the govt of the US is being extremely generous so what's the complaint?

as an Irish citizen i know all about immigrants, i do NOT have a problem with people coming to my country looking for a better life. But as some one that is not allowed to work by my doctor because of a back problem i am finding it very hard to get my payments sorted out i only applied for the living alone allowance and my payments were cut off, what really ticks me off is that these people have free housing they don't pay for a t v licence, have free travel and can beg on the street so it is one law for us and one for them, and they are doing better then us.

If someone has entered a country illegally how can they expect access to any services.
Why dont they just go home to their own country .
Would you want someone to break into your house and refuse to leave whilst expecting you to support them.I think not.
