No more than 4 spots on her body, no temperature and she felt well enough in herself - the doctor confirmed she had CP then.
This week she's come out in loads of spots all over - to me they look like CP - surely she can't get them again can she? And so soon after the first time? She's had no temperature and feels well enough but says the spots are itching. I've done the usual - Calamine Lotion etc.
What do you reckon? Thank you all in advance.

No diagnosis is possible without seeing the spots, nor is it possible to confirm retrospectively your doctors original diagnosis, at least not without blood testing.

All I can confirm is that you are correct, you cannot get chickenpox twice. If you are concerned about her current condition you must take her to your GP.

I remember when my first child had chicken Pox back in 95. It was common back then, but I also recall the CP vaccine came out just a year after. I know now that CP are not as overly common as it was back then and my days as well. Nevertheless, even with todays vaccines, nothing is ever a 100% cure all and kids are constantly in contact with other kids and some may have never gotten any vaccine or just missed and thus cought the CP.
I know with my , near 5 years old, she has not gotten it......YET. I hope she will not. Its awful to watch them constantly try to itch the spots, but as u know its the worst thing for those to be scratched of for they leave a permanent scar that is indented slightly. And yes, it's not uncommon for a child to get CP the second time especially since her first was so mild that she probably did not establish enough ammunity to it.
Just to make sure she does not scratch her pox. I know with my 1st child I would give her Benedryl if it got to much for her. Calamine lotion will help alot and to get it hard and flake off. That is what u want it to do.
For now just remember that this is just part of her childhood and it will pass. Take few photos as a memory for soon , I am sure, that CP will never be seen on a child again just like the Mumps when I was a child. Boy, that hurt and I looked like the late Luie Armstrong. .
Also, one more thing. Just a note that when her CP is still at the early stage, she is consider contagouse . Wait till most gets hard. Plus, most kids do feel well and even lively and happy except for the itch. I never forget taking her to Disney World , but she was at the safe stage.
Kids grow up so fast, so anything that seems bad to you will surpass and will only be remembered as a bittersweet memory of her childhood.
I hope I was a bit of a help, jersygirl622001

I've only known one kid to get them twice and it was in the same circumstances, a very mild dose and then the full blown thing a few months later. getting chicken pox again is rare but it does happen. take her to the docs to make sure and also you can find a lot of information on the nhs direct web site.

She could indeed have the pox again, as some people don't become immune as quickly as other people do. I had the chicken pox three times.

Chicken pox virus can cause Shingles (Herpes zoster).
Herpes zoster is infection that results when varicella-zoster virus reactivates from its latent state in a posterior dorsal root ganglion. Symptoms usually begin with pain along the affected dermatome, followed in 2 to 3 days by a vesicular eruption that is usually diagnostic. Treatment is antiviral drugs and possibly corticosteroids given within 72 h after skin lesions appear.
Consult a dermatologist.
Please see the web pages for more details and images on Herpes zoster (Shingles).

I also had them quite a few times. Four to be in fact. I am imune to the thing that stops the pox from coming back. So, to answer your question, yes they are probably the pox, and get her in to the doc to be sure.

My pediatrician told me that as long as my daughter had at least 10 or more "pox" she would probably never have another breakout.

Does sound like she has it again and it is possible. Some people have no immunity, all 3 of my kids have had CP at least 3 times each.
