When Asian people wear face masks, is it to keep from getting a cold or other infection, or is it to keep from spreading one?

Actually it works in extreme climate.In summer where the temperature is 45+ and to avoid from the pollution.In winter too people put mask to save from extreme cold and it works at least you dont breathe the extreme exposed temperature.

they are just protecting themselves from SARS and alot of them still died regardless of the masks,
