go to the local humaine society and adopt one - i do that all the time - there are plenty there that deserve a good home ... there is an adoption fee in my town for ours which is somewhere around $50 to $125 depending on the type of animal you get, but there are things included with that fee including shots and any alterations you may need, like spay or neutering them. check into it!

Cats and dogs are like real estate -- whatever the market will bear. This means that if you want the pet you pay the price, particularly if it is a special breed. If you go to an animal shelter they will have fees to be paid and the animal will need to be "fixed". Call a local animal shelter and ask. Read the ads in the paper and you may be able to get a pet at a small cost.
I breed purebred cats and often sell them for about $20 just to give them good homes. However, the possible owner will need to convince me they know what they're doing and will take good care of the cat or kitten, and I send instructions along.

Don't get one from a pet store what ever you do !!!!
you can often find free cats/ kittens in local newspapers etc - occasionally puppies too-but its what it costs to look after them well/correctly that costs the big bucks - food shots, getting them fixed -vet fees if they are ill can be 300 & up easily each time ... do u knowanyone with cats or dogs - if u meet someone walking a dog ask them ?? they you can get several opinions - if you want pure breeds - be careful what you looking at price usually reflects quality & if you discover dirt cheap dogs theres usually something fishy going on - puppy mills etc - all not good things
what everyou do - do ALOT of research on what ever you get

Go for a cat. My two kitties haven't cost me as much in the long run as the two dogs. I have 2 big dogs, a Doberman & Border Collie, and both seemed to be accident prone in their first few years & racked up the vet bills. My indoor cats seem to stay healthier than the pooches. And they were both free from people who couldn't keep them any longer. Going to a shelter will usually be cheaper than going to a breeder too, & then you saving a life too.

dogs can be cheap or expensive depends on the pedigree usually you get cats for free the last two cats i got were for free try a dog or cat home , i think a cat is best as they need less looking after and don't make as much mess you can put a cat out for the day when you are at work were as a dog needs walking three times a day

If you go to Pet centers, they can run pretty high . But if you adopt puppies, dogs, kittens, or cats at an animal shelter, they usually run about $50 + shots. So figure maybe around $80 at a shelter.

It depends on where you go..If you elect to rescue one from the pound, it should be the cost of neutering and shots..45 to 100 dollars. If you are getting one from a breeder or pet shop, out here in CA, the minimum price for any puppy is $500.00. Hope this helps!!! DOGS RULE!!

I have a mini dachshund
about $150.00 for heartworm, flea and tick
about $10.00 a month for food
about $30.00 a month for treats and bones
you'll need leash, collar, toys, treat containers, food and water dish
about $100.00 for all their shots every year
I know that there are other things that I can't think of now
But I would say between $700.00 to $1000.00 per year.
But they are totally worth it.
