any non-toxic paint/stain /polish for my wooden cage?

am planning to get a wooden cage made for my budgies. Would anyone know of any thing available in India for non-toxic staining/polishing or painting of the wood and the wire mesh?

use olive oil, linseed oil, anything that is sold as a food oil. It will make the wood look great
