"The Five Gospels," is a 550 page book containing translations of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It was the result of a six year study by 24 Christian scholars from a number of Western universities. They decided to produce a translation of the Gospels which would be uncolored by the translator's personal faith. It was decided that this translation was to give the reader an honest picture of what Jesus truly said. They scanned the text for the words of Jesus, and collect an index of over 1,500 such sayings. They then tested the validity of each of these sayings, one at a time, to see whether Jesus truly said each one. They then produced a fresh translation, color-coded to show authentic Jesuit sayings and those of an unreliable nature. Their conclusion (page 5) was:

"Eighty-two percent of the words ascribed to Jesus in the gospels were not actually spoken by him."

They go on to reveal that:

"biblical scholars and theologians alike have learned to distinguish the Jesus of history from the Christ of faith. It has been a painful lesson for both the church and scholarship. The distinction between the two figures is the difference between a historical person who lived in a particular time and place...and a figure who has been assigned a mythical role, in which he descends from heaven to rescue humankind and, of course, eventually returns there."

Well then, if 82% of the "words of Jesus" found in the Bible were apparently never spoken by him then where did they come from? Some of the sources demonstrated by the authors are:

"The concept of plagiarism was unknown in the ancient world. Authors freely copied from predecessors without acknowledgment. Sages became the repository of free-floating proverbs and witticisms. For the first Christians, Jesus was a legendary sage: it was proper to attribute the world's wisdom to him. The proverb in Mark 2:17, for example, is attested in secular sources (Plutarch and Diogenes for example)...in the parallel to the Markan passage, Matthew adds a sentence taken from the prophet Hosea (Matt 9:13)."

Also:

"Hard sayings are frequently softened in the process of transmission to adapt them to the conditions of daily living...Variations in difficult saying often betray the struggle of the early Christian community to interpret or adapt sayings to its own situations... Matthew's version of the aphorism "The last will be first and the first last"(Matt 20:16) is softened in Mark 10:31 to "MANY of the first will be last, and of the last MANY will be first

No credible Biblical scholar on this earth will claim that the Bible was written by Jesus himself. They all agree that the Bible was written after the departure of Jesus peace be upon him by his followers. So, if the authors of the Bible were people other than Jesus, then did they have Jesus or the Holy Spirit in them guiding their hands and dictating to them word for word what to write? As it happens, once again the answer is no. Who says so? The majority of today's credible Christian scholars do. For example:

Dr. W Graham Scroggie of the Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, a prestigious Christian evangelical mission, says:

"..Yes, the Bible is human, although some out of zeal which is not according to knowledge, have denied this. Those books have passed through the minds of men, are written in the language of men, were penned by the hands of men and bear in their style the characteristics of men...."

ROFL ! Are you talking about the Jesus Seminar? I can assure you, they are not the majority of scholars, nor do they represent the opinion of the mainstream.Their claim of the 82% are not his words is pure bunk. They brought their own views and ideas into it,because they assumed that Jesus *wouldn't* have said those things. into it.
Here is a page with the links to many responses and criticisms of the JS.

So here's the weakness in what you said, "They then tested the validity of each of these sayings, one at a time, to see whether Jesus truly said each one."

Do you know what process they used?

So basically you are putting a lot of faith in people because they have degrees and work in a university.

I imagine you are naive, so let me help you. When you see a university doing anything on religion, they are going to say something incredible. Every time. Because they believe in what they say? No. Because it will get press, and raise the profile of the university. When admissions are low, they will sit back and say, "Let's have a Jesus seminar." Universities are businesses.

I will also help you out for spotting false statistics 82% is claiming far too much accuracy to be legit. Jesus said exactly 100 things, and there was no disagreement among the scholars as to which statements were his? A real study would have a range. Like this:

"Scholars reviewed the NT as presented in 400 manuscripts and concluded that between 35-60% of the statements attributed to Jesus showed signs of having been either mistranslated in 60-70% of translations, or having originally been doctored." (I made this up, but that's how it would look.)

Who do you think say this following verses? God or Jesus ?

"The Lord God is the Creator." Is.42:5 and "The Lord Jesus is the Creator." John 1:3, 10

"The Lord God said, I am He." Is. 43:10 and "The Lord Jesus said, I am He." John 8:24

"The Lord God is the only Saviour." Is. 43:10, 11 and "The Lord Jesus is the Saviour." Titus 1:4.

"The Lord God shall reign forever." Ps. 146:10 and "The Lord Jesus shall reign forever." Luke 1:33

"The Lord God is the King of Israel." Is. 43:15 and "The Lord Jesus is the King of Israel." Matt. 27:37

"The Lord God is the First and the Last." Is. 44:6 and "The Lord Jesus is the First and the Last." Rev. 1:8

"The Lord God is Almighty." Gen. 17:1 and"The Lord Jesus is Almighty." Rev. 1:8

Note: That God of the Old Testament is the Jesus Christ of the New Testament.

Here, it is very clear as Jesus said,

"The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself but the father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the work..."

Who does the work? God himself.

The word "Dwelleth" or "Dwelt" means, to live, Inherent or existing in someone or something as permanent and inseparable quality or attribute.

Conclusion, God reside in His son, Jesus Christ.

The Jesus Seminar is perhaps the most rejected group of liberal scholars in the United States. Technically speaking, they are a minority view of the majority. They may have the majority of the blitz and media because of their controversial views, but they are still the minority.

It's like saying Spanish is now the official language of the United States. Though we do have a lot of Spanish speaking residents, that doesn't mean it is true.

If I were to rewrite everything in your "question" (statement)
in my own words without changing their meaning, are they not still from you?
If I say the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain,
and then say humidity in Spain predominates in flat grassy areas, have I really altered anything??

This is one reason I am a Miss. Synod Lutheran.
Our Pastors are required to have a working knowledge of the original biblical languages to help avoid some of these hitches.

Good Luck and God Bless

Some have mistakenly instructed that previous to His delivery, the Son of God existed as a separate Divine Being at the side of the invisible God. But this inspiration reveals no help within the Scriptures, for the Bible teaches that the Son preexisted His delivery handiest in prophetic anticipation; that's, the Bible tells us that even earlier than He laid the principles of the arena, God deliberate that He might in the future stroll the earth as a Man, the Son, and might sacrifice His possess frame and shed His possess blood for the sins of guy (Acts 20:28). “He certainly used to be foreordained earlier than the groundwork of the arena, however used to be take place in those final occasions for you” (one million Peter one million:20). This plan, which the Bible calls “the Word,” used to be in God’s middle and brain from the establishing, for “within the establishing used to be the Word, and the Word used to be with God, and the Word used to be God” (John one million:one million). The Word used to be God’s possess picture of Himself; it used to be His plan for revealing Himself to His construction. He concept this plan out upfront. He purposed it in His middle. He expected it. He might foresee it going down. Then, while the time used to be proper, He positioned His plan into motion. As He declared in days of ancient, “Indeed I have spoken it; I may also convey it to cross. I have purposed it; I may also do it” (Isaiah forty six:eleven). The Eternal Spirit, the specified Divine Being who created all matters, the invisible God we name the Father, entered into His possess construction as a noticeable individual. “He used to be on the earth, and the arena used to be made by way of Him, and the arena didn't recognise Him. He got here to His possess, and His possess didn't obtain Him” (John one million:10-eleven). Very few have been ready to look the God who dwelled within the Man, Jesus Christ. When Philip requested, “Lord, exhibit us the Father, and it's adequate for us,” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you goodbye, and but you haven't identified Me, Philip? He who has obvious Me has obvious the Father” (John 14:nine). The handiest method someone will ever see God the Father is via seeing the Man. According to John, “No one has obvious God at any time. The handiest begotten Son, who's within the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (John one million:18). The Amplified Bible says that the Son has “introduced Him out wherein He may also be obvious.” It is the Son, the Man, who makes it possible for us to look the invisible God. “Whoever denies the Son does now not have the Father both; he who recognizes the Son has the Father additionally” (one million John two:23). Understanding the connection among the Father and the Son, that's, among the invisible Spirit and the noticeable Man, is the important thing to establishing eager religious eyesight. The Father and the Son don't seem to be 2 precise Divine Beings in any respect, for the Bible states evidently that “GOD IS ONE” (Galatians three:20). The Eternal Spirit is a unmarried Divine Being who indwells and manifests Himself by way of a uniquely conceived individual referred to as the Son. We see right here 2 precise natures, one human and one divine, however now not 2 precise Divine Beings. If you'll be able to clutch this awesome fact, you're going to eventually be ready to rightly divide the whole Word of God. In Christ, James - Apostolic Minister

Jesus often quoted the Old Testament to make His point more valid. Jesus knew the Old Testament very well. He preached from it. His apostles preached from it. Don't matter what author penned it, it's still inspired by God.
