I have been dating this girl for 1 year exactly and we've had our ups and downs she smokes pot and until recently i did it to every once and a while. I've decided that i've made a lot of mistakes this past year but i love this girl and have had thoughts of future marriage. she smokes too much and it seems she would rather smoke then hang out with me. she invites me to chill but i don't want to be around these collage age people who have done much more than pot in there age. im only 18. this is my first girlfriend and i truly do love her we planned to move in together soon but i feel my life might be bad if i proceed with this idea. im very depressed lately(already on paxil for that) and just don't know what to do anymore i love her but i want someone better.but she's the only one who's ever loved me like this. im scared to think of my life without her. but she wants a party life before settling down and im happy in my idea of my future safe fun and successful in college this fall.

She is going down a path that i don't like and am frankly afraid of what could happen because of it but she is a good person at heart and is always there for me any time of the day whenever i need her. am i being hypocritical? i mean i've smoked pretty recently in fact yesterday today is when it hit me i dont want to live my life that way

Sounds like you know what you have to do. Make sure you are respectful when you end it. Tell her that you feel your are going in different directions and that you will always cherich what you had. Don't look back though. Once you break up- stay broken up. College will be great! Much better single than in a relationship.
good luck, you will get over the pain and so will she.
First loves always have a special place in your heart.

Yes, you should dump her, and and here is why:
"...she smokes pot... she smokes too much and it seems she would rather smoke then hang out with me..."
"...we planned to move in together soon but i feel my life might be bad if i proceed with this idea..."
"...i love her but i want someone better..."
It will hurt to leave her, but you will be the better for it. Maybe she will change her ways, and maybe not. If she does, maybe you will get back together—and maybe not. But the timing must be right for these things. Right now, clearly, it is not.

Honestly I think you should break it off with her if she's going down a path you don't want to follow. I know it's hard to let go of your first love, but it's just that your FIRST love...doesn't mean she has to be your only love. I'm sure you'll find someone who is more compatible and caring for you, just give it a chance...besides if you're depressed by being with your girlfriend, it's a sure sign that things aren't going the best.

Yes I think you should try the mating game, she seems to like pot more than she likes you, try dating other girls and you may find you are missing out on a lot of things and it may also help her to grow up too.

If you are going away to college, you are going to meet someone else guranteed.
You don't want to marry your FIRST girlfriend anyways.
Play the field, see whats out there. It sounds like you are growing apart anyways.

you said you're happy with your idea of future safe fun so i think it's obvious what you really want to do.
break up with her.
it's going to hurt, it's going to be painful, and hard to do so but its obvious she is not exactly good.
or you two could talk. and see if she's willing to change for you.
