I heard that if you are horribly not motivated, you might need to take a Thyroid test to see it. I am now terribly not motivated and it seems i need to take that test. So what is that and what does it do? Plus what is the cost of this such treatment?

A thyroid test could just be a blood test. The normally test a hormone called TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) which is in your blood in higher amounts if your thyroid is not producing enough hormones. Thyroid hormones effect your metabolism (energy level). Sometime they will measure you thyroid hormones directly also, but usually only is there is a problem with your TSH. Not sure what the price of a blood test is, it is always covered by my insurance.

Even though lack of motivation can be one symptom of low thyroid hormone (Hypothyroidism), you would have a lot more symptoms if it was your thyroid.

Mentally you may feel depressed, forgetful, mental fogginess, you would also be fatigued. Some feel cold. There are more symptoms.

Usually for treatment you are given the thyroid hormone your thyroid lacks, and cost depends are your medical coverage, but generics cost less than $20 a month without any coverage.

There are other test that they can do, needle biopsy, radioactive iodine uptake, MRI's, ...

But if your only symptom is lack of motivation and your thyroid is not enlarged (its located around your throat), I see no reason for them to do more than just a blood test.

To get your thyroid checked, all you have to do is go to your doctor's office where they will draw blood to check your TSH and maybe a few more labs (like T-3 and T-4). TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone. Just because you are "not motivated" does not necessarily mean that you have a thyroid problem. This is sometimes, however, associated with hypothyroidism (slow metabolism), which also produces symptoms such as weight gain, low heart rate, fatigue, feeling cold all the time, constipation, dry skin, and dull hair. Hypothyroidism will show a high TSH because your brain is releasing more of the hormone to stimulate your thyroid. Hyperthyroidism, on the other hand, produces produces symptoms such as fast heart rate, shiny skin and fine shiny hair, fatigue, excessive hunger, and feeling hot all the time. The cost of the test depends on what your insurance will cover, and if you don't have insurance, most doctor's offices have contracts with discounted lab services. Good luck.

It's a blood test to see how your thyroid gland is functioning. It should only be done in the morning. Usually the doctor will order a test called TSH. However, this test does not always catch the condition in the early stages, so its good to have a free t4, free t3, and an antibody test at the same time.

The blood sample will be sent to the lab to be tested. Within a few days to week, the lab will send your doctor a report and he/she will tell you if your thyroid is underactive or not.

I have no idea about cost, as insurance picks it up. I know healthcheck will test without a doctors order, but you need to pay for it yourself. The link is below if you want to look to see what testing costs.

As far as treatment if you have the condition, its a pill each and every day. It can cost as little as $4.00 a month if you get a genreric at WAlmart up to $20+ for a brand name.

If the level of thyroid in your system is too low, it can cause you to feel tired, without energy, and sometimes gain weight. Having your thyroid either too low or too high can cause problems, depending on the levels.
To determine the level, a simple blood test is taken. Sometimes if there is a problem, it is as simple as taking a thyroid supplement pill each day. Occasionally, there may be more involved, but the majority of the time you simply need to take thyroid and monitor your levels with blood tests from time to time.

Thyroid test is a simple blood test, I got from the information from other comments are that they are proabably looking for your thyroid's size to make sure you do not have a nodule. Did they tell you that you have high thyroid function that you are treating or low? Most likely, it is a low function and that they are giving you a pill to make the hormones your thyroid would normally make. Sometimes people have to take pills if their thyroids are working too well. This decreases how much hormones a person's thyroid will make. In order to determine this, they probably tested your TSH level and Free T4. TSH is the hormone that tells your thyroid to work. If it is high, your thyroid is not working well so your body continues to send signals to it to tell it to work. If it is low, then your thyroid is working too well and your body doesn't need to tell it to work to the normal level it should be telling it to work. Free T4 is one of the hormones the thyroid makes, so if you have a low free T4, you should have a high TSH. Thus your brain is telling your thyroid to work more and your thyroid is not responding. In this case, they give you thryoid pills to replace it. If high free T4 and low TSH, it is working too well and the docs may give you meds to stop making the thyroid work more than it should. Hopefully this helps.

thyroid is tested by your blood. I went to emergency room for heart palpations and they drew blood from me. The doctor told me I had an over active thyroid (he said most ppl have an under active one). I eat alot , hardly excercise and don't gain weight as fast as other people. It has noyhing to do with being motivated because my sister-in-law is VERY active and gains weight super easy because her thyroid is slow. She takes meds for it. I don't because other than my heart beating too fast some times, it's a plus when it's over active.
Sorry don't know how much it cost because they had done other tests along with thyroid one.
