Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ds...
if not you could be suffering from Generalized Anxiety
Disorder..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/general_anx...
There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.
Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.
Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.
The program that finally worked the best for me is this one (located in Arizona): http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.
I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy.
Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

You overcome panic yourself. sounds to me that you have had issues in the past, did somebody seriously mess you about by cheating on you or something?
Panic attacks are a symptom of increased anxiety and stress, it can become catch 22 whereby the fear of having an attack can actually fuel one. The solution is you must learn to not be affraid of an attack. They are very unpleasant, I had them too. Mentally imagine that before during a panic attack you would try to grasp more control, instead imagine loosening your grip. If you can admit to yourself that your feeling this anxiety but you are going to let it do its thing you will find it will very quickly go. In time your anxiety will lessen as you become more used to stopping them.
One other trick, next time you feel anxious try this breathing task. Breath in through your nose to the count of 3, hold it for a few seconds then breath out to the count of 6. This will increase the amount of CO2 in your body and reduce the effects of hyperventilation brought on by fast anxious breathing.
Hope that helps mate, and if its any comfort you are not alone at all. anxiety is everywhere.

What's interesting is that most treatments work with anxiety as a psychological problem but actually it's a physical condition i.e. I suspect you have symptoms that come along with it.
By understanding what your body's symptoms are communicating and acting on them, the body can stop sending the anxiety.

.I know how you feel.I suffered at work for at least 20 years and had to retire with generalized anxiety .I was taking Serapax(which is one of the benzodiazapene group of drugs)at work to try to cope but i became dependent on them and had to withdraw.I had to go to hospital to slowly come of the drug which was very unpleasant.
I tried to do relaxation therapy but it did not work.I was able to see a psychiatrist who was very understanding and he gave me some medication to help me. This treatment does not have withdrawal symptoms. If you have to come of it for a while It does not accumulate in the body to cause adverse symptoms.I hope you can relate to some of this.
Regards Rob.
