I suspect that you will be marginally better off - but the key is council tax. If you live somewhere where the council tax has risen a lot and if it continues to rise then that may well offset gains from allowances and the reduction in the basic rate. As a campaigner for pensioners' rights I always argue strongly that the RPI is unrepresentative of the real increases in costs that pensioners experience. Having said that I do think that the Chancellor cares about those who live on low incomes/pensions and that this budget is designed to help them.

The simple answer is No! you won't. You became financially invisible when you reached 65. I think that there is a concerted effort to encourage all the pensioners to leave the UK in order that they become less of a drain on society. To be replaced by immigrants who are more likely to support Socialism in all its extreme measures.

Hello,
(ANS) The short answer is No! almost certainly NOT!! Why? because this budget was ALL "smoke & mirrors". Dont be fooled by the chancellors nice kind sounding words, the devil is in the fine details.
Brown made it look like he was giving generously to people (But he has no more money to give!!) but in the next breath he took away what he gave.
**The balance of help went mainly to the middle classes (because brown needs these voters) middle income people, and to families with children.
**You will be worse off in the long run, why? because fuel duty is going up by 2p as of next October. When the cost of fuel goes up that hits everyone in society including retired people like yourself (and me too!!). Its like saying the cost of living is going up by 2p, because ALL goods that have to be transported by road to shops will affect the price we consumers pay for them. The big supermarkets arent going to absorb the 2p rise thats for sure.
**No! we are all going to be worse off except for the already rich people. (theres now no difference between new labour & the tories).

You and me both! When did they ever give anything away? A bit more on the pension and a lot more on our glass of wine!
Good luck, mate!

In terms of income tax you will only be better off if you are earning over 19,000 pounds.
Sorry, though I really think it should be Gordon apologising!
